Dave Gunning shares his album, The Same Storm
Dave Gunning‘s two-decade-long career has led the folk singer-songwriter to develop a reputation as a great storyteller and engaging performer across Canada. The JUNO-nominated artist has a new album to share written over the last couple of years, entitled The Same Storm.
It charts the highs and lows which we have weathered together, finding Gunning taking a freer and braver approach than to his previous recordings. The album includes “Middle Ground,” a hopeful and Americana-tinged reflection on the divide within the world.
“It seems with the misinformation that abounds, the middle ground on so many issues has shrunk to a thin line that’s almost impossible to stand on,” explains Gunning.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m a singer, songwriter, and storyteller from Nova Scotia.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My most recent release is called The Same Storm. A song of the same title was written about some of the silver lining things about the pandemic. It was a fun and casual record to make. With lots of time at home, I had the luxury of writing lots of new songs plus sitting down to finish things that I’d started and never finished. https://lnk.to/TheSameStorm
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
A lot of the songs that I’ve written over the years are third-person point-of-view story songs. I do have a soft spot for the underdogs, for sure. But I think that there’s a pinch more of me on this one than on previous records.
Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?
JP Cormier and I are currently working on another new recording together, and we have lots of upcoming shows leading up to the Christmas season and into the New Year. Visit my website davegunning.com for details.
What’s your goal for 2022?
Honestly, I’m so lucky to be able to do what I love, and I just hope to keep doing this. I want to keep writing songs and making music, and getting out to see familiar and new audiences. More collaboration work would be fun as well.
