First off, we have the Top Five Cover Songs that have been released in 2022 so far, all chosen by Editor, Jenna Melanson.

Enjoy these five picks. and while you’re at it, listen to the originals as well. These five Canadian artists and bands have done an incredible job making each track their own.

The Arctic – “I Want It That Way”

British Columbia-based The Arctic unveiled their darker, alternative take on the 1999 Backstreet Boys hit, “I Want It That Way”. The cover will find love from die-hard fans of the original and new music lovers who deemed the Backstreet Boys as cheesy, bubblegum pop stars. Read more about The Arctic and their reimagining of “I Want It That Way”, here.

Jarvis Church – “Just The Two Of Us”

Based in Los Angeles, with his roots in Toronto, Jarvis Church has released a whole album of cover songs entitled Vol 3: A Tribute to Bill Withers and Beyond. A good portion of these tracks were originally performed by Bill Withers. “Just The Two Of Us” is a beautiful track, which pays fitting homage to the late legend while remaining unique all on its own. Ghost Caravan – “Girls Talk”

Toronto’s rising Ghost Caravan (the project of singer, songwriter, actress, and performer, Shaina Silver-Baird) has released a danceable, exciting, and vibrant cover of Elvis Costello‘s “Girls Talk”. Bringing up teenage memories, Ghost Caravan felt the track was reminiscent of a group of friends huddling, laughing, and chatting. The single is featured in the recent release, COVERAMA, which features various artists.

TANDM – “Accidentally In Love”

Toronto, ON-based rising pop duo, TANDM released their infectious cover of The Counting Crows tune, “Accidentally In Love” earlier this month. The original was a frequent spin on the stereos of band members, vocalist-guitarist Maxine Beck-Sinderby, and drummer Thomas Franklin (particularly for its notable feature on the Shrek 2 soundtrack!). They have also shared a stop-motion video directed and animated by Akash Jones, written and art directed by Bronte Brazier, and its cast (wooden artist dolls) that were named after the band members, Maxine and Thomas. You can find this release on COVERAMA.
