Now that nice weather is upon us, it was a great day for a drive down to Calgary to catch a quartet of modern metalcore bands. While I am rather unfamiliar with all four bands, both Alberta shows sold out fairly quickly, so I knew there had to be something to the buzz around these bands, and I was not disappointed.
Kicking off the night was Sace6, who performed as a trio, but are listed online as a duo. From their bio: “the project lives where pop melody, R&B intimacy, and metal intensity collide, genres not blended, but forced to coexist.”. It was an interesting blend indeed.

Up next was Wind Walkers, who delivered a super tight set and had the crowd’s undivided attention.

Northlane, the Australian metalcore sensation, took the stage to new heights with stunning visuals and a stellar light show. Singer Marcus Bridge commanded the audience, leading sing-alongs, and engaging the crowd with a presence and charisma that was undeniable. My personal favourite set of the night.

Headliners Dayseeker were something else, in the best way possible. The sold-out crowd was absolutely rabid for them. At times the audience nearly drowned out singer Rory Rodriguez. Another visually stunning set, with the added bonus of lyrics on the video wall behind the band helped with the sing-along vibe, even for those who weren’t as familiar with the music as the die hard fans. At one point Rodriguez did a piano solo of “The Living Dead”, and brought out Sace to join him on vocals. A very emotional song, delivered beautifully by the two gents.

Overall it was a great night and a lot of fun, and though not bands that I typically listen to, it was a solid tour package that meshed well together.
