First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
The Turnbull Brothers are Evan and Aaron Turnbull, 22-year-old twins from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, who placed 3rd in the finals of Canada’s Got Talent Season 2.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
I’m Doing Fine is a song we wrote about the awkward phase in life we went through after high school. We were trying to get things figured out while watching all our friends we knew since we were little kids move on to different things. The point in the song is letting the people who love you know that you’re doing all right and coming to terms with change in your life.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I wouldn’t say we have a specific formula to writing songs, although we have tried using many in the past. Most of the material we write and become proud of is made spontaneously. Whether it is the words that come first or the music etc we don’t have a set way of making it.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
The current plan is to keep appearing live as much as we can. We are considering doing a music video for I’m Doing Fine, but we are still workshopping ideas for it. Content for the future is still in the shop. We are currently working on a full-length album. We’ve been working on the album for a while. The EP has been a small side project to let the people know that we still exist and have not gone away.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
It would definitely be Canada’s Got Talent Season 2. We feel like anyone who knows about us would assume that a big turning point would have to be playing at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay. It was our first show having a 5-piece band backing us and playing to a huge crowd at our hometown theatre. Being on that stage that we’ve known since we were kids but as full-fledged musicians, headlining that concert made things really come into perspective about how far we have come professionally since our very first gigs playing at the Talo Café Bar on the same street.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
We have given this one quite a bit of thought and would have to go with Christina Goo Goo. We’ve had several great interactions with her and plan to do some writing together.
