New single, “Quicksand Town,” out now, along with Music Video
Summerside’s own Soul Filter, the award-nominated Alt-Rock-Pop group known for blending heartfelt lyricism with 90s-inspired hooks, has just released the official video for their single “Quicksand Town” — and it’s bursting with personality, retro flair, and rock ‘n roll spirit.
A high-energy track about feeling stuck and dreaming of escape, “Quicksand Town” showcases the band’s knack for pairing relatable storytelling with anthemic vibes. The video takes that feeling to the next level, following lead vocalist Karen Penton as she ditches the dishes and waitressing duties in a 1950s diner to pursue a life less ordinary.
The idea for the video sparked after a Sunday morning breakfast at the Starlite Diner in Summerside, PEI — an iconic local gem decked out in full 50s decor. Guitarist Mike Penton imagined Karen singing the song while scrubbing dishes and playing the role of a daydreaming diner worker. What began as a joke quickly became a vision they couldn’t shake. With help from video producer Omar Broderick of Slickphotography (who also produced their previous video “The City Knows”), and full support from the Starlite Diner crew — including real-life waitress Terrilee Phillips, who dons a polka-dot dress for the occasion — the dream became a reality.
The result is a playful, empowering visual that perfectly complements the song’s themes of frustration, hope, and defiance.
