It’s a great month to be French in Montreal. A few days after l’Impératrice rocked MTelus, we returned to the same venue tonight, this time for Yseult. The singer-songwriter brought her self-produced, self-financed YTour to a packed venue.
No opener were on the bill tonight, but Yseult arrived onstage a good 40 minutes after the advertised start time of the show. Regardless, the crowd did not seem to hold it against her, as she came out to a thunder of applause, and the crowd sang along to opening track Noir so much, she asked to run it again to live in the moment!
The reunion with her Montreal audience was an emotional one. The last time we caught Yseult in town, she was playing the Symphonic Orchestra with just a piano and her voice at the 2022 Francos. Tonight, we mostly brought songs from her latest project Mental, which verges more towards gender-bending alternative! Her performance packed a punch, with a lot of dancing, a wig that left the stage two songs in, and an incredible display of raw energy. Yseult is a force to be reckoned with, showing her range from bangers like Gasolina, all the way to the raw emotion of Corps a capella.
Montreal was the only Canadian date lucky enough to receive Yseult’s YTour, before she takes it to New York and LA, before returning to France for some summer festivals. Tonight was a cherished experience between the singer and her public, and we sure hope it won’t be another 2 years before she comes back again!
