Lorna Shore has risen to the top of the metal world. Coming from humble beginnings, this New Jersey band has become one of the most popular contemporary metal acts. On this tour Lorna Shore is playing the entirety of their Pain Remains album. The Pain Remains Tour has Sanguisugabogg, Kubli Khan and Whitechapel for support. This awesome tour made a stop at History in Toronto on September 20th, 2024. With such an amazing lineup this is easily one of the best tours of the year.

Sanguisugabogg opened up the show and it was a blast. They have quickly become one of the most popular new school-old school death metal bands for good reason. Their songs are jam-packed with hooks, catchy grooves, and old-school death metal tropes. The sound at the History was immaculate and helped Sanguisugabogg’s set come through crystal clear. For fans of old-school death metal, it’s impossible not to recommend Sanguisugabogg.

Up next was Kubli Khan. Kubli Khan has had a glow up in recent times and has become one of the hottest bands in hardcore, selling out large venues all across North America. On the day of this show, their hotly anticipated new album Exhibition of Prowess was released and the excitement was palpable among the crowd. Kubli Khan is a band that exudes high energy and confidence with a setlist that covers their entire discography. Their set was an absolute treat to witness and the crowd went nuts.

Whitechapel has made a big comeback in the consciousness of deathcore fans with the release of their latest single A Visceral Retch. Vocalist Phil Bozeman is one of the most respected singers in the genre and seeing Whitechapel live makes it apparent why. It’s easy to see that Bozeman is the star of the band. He has a magnetic stage presence and knows how to work a crowd. Their set might have stolen the show for me. They brought back some of their old tunes and it was awesome to hear them in a venue with such great sound. Having three guitarists within the band could potentially cause a sonic mess but History was able to make it sound so clear. Along with some classic songs, they also played some of their contemporary fan favourites. Whitechapel continue to be one of deathcore’s premiere bands and have remained as such throughout the eras of the genre.

Simply put, Lorna Shore is awesome live. They are a fan favourite for a good reason. Playing the entirety of the Pain Remains album in full was such a treat to hear. Their vocalist Will Ramos is an amazing frontman with high energy and oodles of charisma. His vocal style has become the standard of the deathcore genre and seeing them makes it obvious why. The way he contorts his growls and screams is spectacular on the album but hearing done live shows he is the real deal. During their first song, there was a technical difficulty that caused the orchestra backing track to fail. The way that Will Ramos handled it and got the crowd hyped up to play the song again was a masterclass on how a front person should maneuver these situations. The music of Lorna Shore is complicated and very fast. Their technical prowess is a sight to behold as they played the entire album perfectly. During their entire set, the crowd was going crazy. There was plenty of moshing, crowd surfing, and a massive line to their merchandise table. The hype is totally justified when it comes to Lorna Shore.
