JILL BARBER ANNOUNCES ENCORE! THE FOLLOW-UP TO HER BEST-SELLING DEBUT FRANCOPHONE LP CHANSONS
The inimitable Jill Barber has announced her new album ENCORE!, set for release on June 14th via Outside Music, ten years after the release of her now classic album – Chansons. ENCORE! features brand new interpretations of classic songs by Charles Trenet, Blossom Dearie, Django Reinhardt, and Edith Piaf.
To celebrate the announcement, Jill shared her magnificent version of Edith Piaf’s classic “Padam Padam” which she chose as the first single simply because of how fun it is to sing.
“It’s always intimidating to interpret a song made famous by the spectacular Edith Piaf… but this is such a magnificent song, I couldn’t resist attempting my own rendition. The trick is not to emulate her (impossible!), but to go for my own unique approach. I am so pleased with how this song, about a woman who goes quite mad, turned out.”
Ten years ago, Jill found herself at an intensive French immersion school in the south of France that culminated in the recording of an album of classic French songs ranging from Edith Piaf to Serge Gainsbourg. A decade later, this album- Chansons- has been streamed over 120 million times and is currently on its 4th vinyl pressing. The album took Jill to travel the world, playing in France, Austria, Japan, and Mexico, as well as several jazz festivals across Canada. To mark the anniversary of this pivotal record in her career, Jill once again collaborated with Grammy Award-nominated producer Drew Jurecka (Dua Lipa, Alvvays, Dermot Kennedy), to record the ENCORE!.
Jill is a three-time JUNO Award nominee and Sirius XM Jazz Artist of the Year. Along with multiple regional awards and a Polaris Prize nomination, her album Chances was certified Gold, with her songs having been streamed more than 200 million times around the world.
ENCORE! Is set for release on June 14th via Outside Music.
