Morgan Toney is a Mi’kmaq folk singer-songwriter and fiddler from Nova Scotia, Canada, whose music blends Celtic folk and traditional Mi’kmaq music.
Morgan released his album, First Flight back in 2021, featuring singles, “Ko’jua” and “Msit No’kmaq.”
Morgan is set to play various showcases throughout the festival, including a show on the Main Stage on Saturday, July 22.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello, my name is Morgan Toney. I am a 24-year-old singer-songwriter/fiddle player born and raised in We’koqma’q First Nation, but now residing in Wagmatcook First Nation. In 2020, I teamed up with Keith Mullins, a well-respected singer/songwriter from Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Together, we have created a Music Genre that we call “Mi’kmaltic” (Mi’kmaq + Celtic). This fusion focuses on the stories and teachings of the Mi’kmaq People and the Fiery fiddling of Cape Breton Island.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
We released my debut album “First Flight” in 2021. This has been a fun project; writing songs, creating fiddle tunes, and learning the ropes from Keith. This album focuses on the teachings I have gained and remaining hopeful and positive.
You’re playing Stan Rogers Folk Festival this year. Is this your first time playing at the festival? If so, have you ever attended?
This is my first time at Stan Roger’s Folk Festival, yet as an audience member and performer!
With a stellar, hugely-Canadian lineup, who are you excited to check out at the festival?
I am very proud as a Musician and I really value “connections”. I would love to meet the artists, hear their stories, and have fun!
