CJ Cooper – “Kid” (Single Review)

CJ Cooper shares her brand new single, “Kid”

Guelph, Ontario’s CJ Cooper is back with her brand new single, “Kid,” following her previous album, are we there yet?

“Kid” is the first single released from CJ’s upcoming third album and was produced by Jordan White.

CJ shares,

“This song is about nostalgia and reflecting on the places that you grew up in. It’s already been called “an anthem for the 20 somethings”. I hope people can relate and love it as much as I do and take the time to appreciate what they have around them because we grow up fast.”

Review

“Kid” is a poignant and nostalgic track that explores the idea of growing up and the passing of time while also exploring the troubles we face in adulthood.

The song features a soulful vocal performance from CJ alongside a mellow, understated tempo. CJ’s vocals shine throughout the track and evoke a sense of longing.

The memorable chorus, “Back before the baggage, The weight of the world on my shoulders, Didn’t think I deserved, Being treated so badly by so many people, Just trying to find my place shouldn’t hurt like this, So take me back to being a kid,” paints a picture of a person who is burdened by the weight of the world on their shoulders and is longing to return to a simpler time when life was easier. The lyrics evoke a powerful plea for a return to a time when life was simpler and more carefree.

Overall, “Kid” is a relatable reflection on the difficulties of growing up and the desire to return to a more innocent time.
