Kasador incite frenzy with new single, “Lock On”

Kingston, Ontario, alt-rock band Kasador has never been scared of change. And the three friends at Kasador’s core—Cameron Wyatt (vocals/guitar), Boris Baker (bass), and Stephen Adubofuor (drums)—have been through a lot of it, including losing their former co-lead singer when he stepped down in 2020.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Wyatt, Baker, and Adubofuor began the process of growth and building that would eventually produce the music for their second LP, the upcoming Youth. This period encouraged tightening the screws: songcraft was dissected and refined, and a new, grittier sound emerged. The result on the record is an essential document of a band realizing that things won’t—can’t—last forever and how to make sense of the gap between youthful dreams and very adult realities.

The band collaborated with producer and co-writer Brett Emmons of The Glorious Sons for their icy punk rock frenzy of a song, “Lock On.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are a rock band called Kasador from Kingston, ON, the final evolution of Kasador, the rock band from the city of Kingston in Ontario. We have now decided who we are and what we want to say until the point when I inevitably realize I hate everything we’ve ever done and want to fully rebrand again. We have songs that you can relate to on a human level. You are not perfect, and neither am I or our songs, but that’s something we can connect on. When we meet, I want you to feel like you’ve been my best friend for years because I’ll never judge you. Not for real, anyway.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Lock On is a frustrating stream of consciousness put to music. It’s like a colourful and exciting dream state. It draws from rock, punk, pop, and lack of sleep influences. Ideally, you can yell the words loudly and incorrectly in your car while still feeling good about it—a cathartic release of blowing the mental block out of your brain through your ears.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

I feel like there’s another person who lives in my brain who is actually the songwriter, so you’d probably have to ask them, but I can make some assumptions. Everything I hear, whether I think it’s good or bad, has some kind of value because someone somewhere in the world thought there was an element to it that was compelling. I’ve tried to take an amalgamation of all the influences I’ve heard that have stood out to me and put them into songs.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

There are ones around Ontario I wish I could tell you about, but sadly can’t at this moment. **cough** Ontario **cough** Quebec **cough. Readers should just ensure they’re following us on socials, maybe even join the mailing list, and they won’t miss a single show announcement. But we can keep things spicy here and spill the beans on one show that’s not yet announced… June 24, Kingston @ Skeleton Park Arts Festival. We’re looking forward to that show and hope they dont mind.

What’s your goal for 2023?

I want to get my summer body going so I can feel really good about the suggestive calendar we’ll be putting together for 2024 to support our record.
