Nathaniel Sutton shares his single, “The Metaphor”

Hailing from the prairies region of Edmonton, Alberta, singer, songwriter, and composer Nathaniel Sutton has unveiled his latest single, “The Metaphor.”

The Edmonton native is by no means a newcomer to the music scene. He spent several years playing in touring bands while he honed his recording and production chops on the side. Sutton continues to create deeply personal music with high production values, which he describes as ‘sonic poetry.’

The pandemic was stressful for several reasons, and for Nathaniel Sutton, divorce was an added factor to that stress. A long-term relationship, such as an eleven-year marriage coming to an end, is a difficult situation for anyone to endure, but Nathaniel found comfort in writing music.

Keeping with the theme, “The Metaphor” is a song about finding inner peace in difficult situations. The songwriting process “felt almost therapeutic in a way, writing and recording such personal songs.” Nathaniel explains.

Review

Combining elements of folk, rock, and, at times, pop, “The Metaphor” showcases Nathaniel’s raw talent as a songwriter and musician.

The song begins with a piano intro, then quickly picks up the beat and layers of instrumentation as Nathaniel’s gruff yet passionate vocals are added to the mix.

The repetitive lyrics in the chorus, “Take me back to a place I know,” paint a vivid picture of one’s journey of self-discovery and perseverance, even in tough times.

Overall, “The Metaphor” is an experience that is both intimate and emotionally charged, evoking a sense of deep introspection and reflection.
