Renée Landry delivers her latest single, “The Mountains”

Ottawa, ON-based singer-songwriter Renée Landry has unveiled her single, “The Mountains.”

The third single off of Landry’s upcoming EP (to be released in 2023), “The Mountains,” tells a story of isolation inspired by Landry’s own experiences of feeling like an outsider and navigating life with chronic illness. The songs haunting vocal delivery, intimate lyrics, and mystical instrumentation create a sombre ambiance that transports you to a distant wilderness hidden away from civilization.

With music & Lyrics by Renée Landry, “The Mountains” was produced at Metropolitan Studios (Ottawa) by Jason Jakunas & Renée Landry, mixed by Jason Jakunas, and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova.

Review

The hypnotizing beat on “The Mountains,” added to Renée Landry’s feathery yet powerful vocals, creates a truly entrancing piece of music.

The single is perfectly put together, sounding somewhat like a hymn mixed with a ballad.

The lyrics, “I never was a duchess, Not fit to be a wife, I’m better on my own than this conventional life, so I’m going to the mountains,” and “I failed as a lover, I’m just an average friend, But when I leave this earth will they say you remember when, Will I have done enough to leave my mark, Cause I’m going to the mountains for a brand new start,” are emotion-filled, yet distant. I think these lyrics and the rest of the song will speak to many listeners, which is something only a great storyteller can accomplish.

“The Mountains” left me wanting more from Renée and anxious to see what’s next.
