Peter Jackson releases his 10-song album, In God’s Hands

Canadian hip-hop artist Peter Jackson has released his first post-lockdown project titled In God’s Hands. The ten-song album hit all major online streaming platforms on October 28th, preceded by several singles and music video uploads that help set the table for the full drop.

The first major song to be released off In God’s Hands was the club banger “Mountain Valley,” which features the R&B star Trey Songz that came out earlier this year. The biggest single release of them all was the song “All I Ever Wanted,” which saw Peter Jackson enlist the support of rising hip-hop star Millyz to help bring the joint up to another level. Millyz, who has seen an explosion of popularity of his own as of late, connected with Peter Jackson in a Toronto studio to record the song together. The pair also moved forward with a music video for the joint that they filmed in downtown Toronto with frequent collaborator Shawn Thomas as the director.

The Toronto-based rapper who goes by the nickname “PJ” had taken off a few years between projects as his last EP titled 23 and a Half came out about two years ago so it’s safe to say a lot of what inspired this new album are feelings and events that took place over the pandemic years that we all experienced in Canada. It really became evident after multiple listens that I had concluded that this is one of the deepest and most heartfelt projects the artist has put together thus far in his career.

With over ten years working as a musician, I think many of the rapper’s fans are happy to see him expanding his horizons with his vocals and integrating more melodic harmonies, as we hear on the song “Sometimes,” that seemed to grow on me the more I heard it. It’s great to see Jackson open the door to some more real-life issues that he’s dealt with that many fans can relate to. Tracks like “Mockingbird” and “Hundred Roses” are great examples of this. These are the type of songs that fans can really connect with, so it was a good move to have these topics become the overall focus and underlying theme of In God’s Hands.
