Toronto, ON-based, Sri-Lankan-born artist, Roveena recently released her single, “Time”. Following in the tracks of “Fearless”, which was featured during the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics on CBC Television, and “Fly” which hit 50,000 streams within the first week of the release.
Roveena’s vocals on “Time” are immensely powerful and emotional. The lyrics themselves are enough to give you goosebumps, but when you add in the simple yet complex piano-heavy music and you have something extremely soul-stirring.
Check out “Time” below, and find out more about Roveena via our mini-interview.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I am a Pop/AC recording artist based in Toronto. Born in Sri Lanka and immigrated to Canada at a very young age, which is when I discovered my love of music. My fans would describe me as a vocal powerhouse who loves to belt out ballads and write music that connects with my fans.
You recently unveiled your new single, “Time”, what can you tell us about the writing process for the track?
“Time” was written at a point in my life where I was heartbroken. Feeling lost and unsure of what my path forward would look like – this song was penned as a reminder that no matter how hard life hits you – Time is truly a healer and will help you find the strength to prevail and forge forward. For me, my goal has always been to inspire through my music.
You worked with James Bryan on the track, how was that experience?
I was very fortunate to co-write this single with James Bryan (The Philosopher Kings/Prozzak). Writing is a learning process that is continually evolving for me – James taught me how to really dig deep with writing music that connects with people. We have to remember that we are never alone in our experiences and that music carries the power to help us get through these experiences no matter how tough they are.
You are hard at work on your upcoming third studio album, what can you tell us about the making of this release?
Earlier this year, I was in BC working with an incredible team writing and recording the first half of this new album – the second half is now underway here in Toronto. I am really excited to share this new project! I would say it’s an evolution of my sound which I hope my fans are going to love and embrace.
What else can we expect from you in 2022?
I will be spending most of 2022 with my head down working on this new album but a few covers will be released throughout this year for my fans! I have an amazing fan base across all my social media platforms that embrace my music and they seem to love when I “Roveena-fy” covers of their favourite songs.
