Five Questions With Syd Carter West

Vancouver, BC-based singer-songwriter Syd Carter West has unveiled her new single, “Better Off”. Utilizing her raw and passionate vocals, Syd Carter West reflects on pain and healing after the end of a relationship in her newest track.

Syd shares,

“This song is my way of telling those who are still healing, hurting, or moving on from a breakup, that the best thing we can do for ourselves is to focus on our health and happiness. The relationship we have with ourselves will always be #1, no matter how cliche it sounds.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey readers! I’m Syd Carter West, a singer-songwriter born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. My focus is Americana/Southern Rock music inspired by classic rock phenoms such as Freddie Mercury, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My new single “Better Off” is about letting go of a toxic relationship and finding empowerment through the pain. This song is a friendly reminder that putting my energy and thoughts toward a broken relationship is only going to set me back – it isn’t worth giving up the love and growth I have built for myself.

“Better Off” is my first 2022 ballad, inspired by Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” – I’d like to think it has a similar vibe, haha! The song will be released to all platforms on April 27th, 2022. Super excited for everyone to hear it!

When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform?

While the world is slowly coming back to normal, I spend a lot of time songwriting and finding new ways to expand my music. I’ve written and recorded too many demos to count and I’m thrilled to eventually share them with the world in the near future!

Thanks to social media, I’ve still been able to perform via live streaming or posting music videos on YouTube etc. However, I’m happy to say that live music shows are coming back and I’m booking gigs already – hallelujah!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?

Bryan Adams – I grew up listening to the soundtrack he co-wrote/performed for the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Love him!

What’s your goal for 2022?

Realistically, get my music out there more and become recognized in the music industry. I would love to start touring across Canada and USA, though. Fingers crossed!
