Montreal, QC-based pop artist, Ann@lise has unveiled her new single, “Tightrope”, which is uniquely set to the music of Greig’s 1867 instrumental classic “In The Hall of the Mountain King”.
The feisty singer says the song’s lyrics arose from a discussion with fellow songwriter and producer Kayla Diamond surrounding modern-day cancel culture. Given the lightspeed with which information can work its way to millions of people in the blink of an eye, Ann@lise says it’s no surprise many in the public purview feel as though they’re constantly walking a tightrope.
“The song came together in less than an hour, but it’s that impulsiveness and lack of overthinking that makes it so special”, she states.
The single, which is packed with lyrically witty observations, coupled with Ann@lise’s instantly memorable, awe-inspiring vocals, is bound to make her 5th single release a hit.

Hi, I am Ann@lise. I’m a recording artist, singer-songwriter, and musician from Montreal, Quebec. Music has been my whole life and I don’t know if I’d still be here if it wasn’t for music.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My music is dark. It’s bold and a full expression of what is going on in my head on the daily. Many are things I normally couldn’t say out loud so I put them into my music. I would describe my songwriting as clever and metaphorical. I love storytelling in my music and write songs that allow the listener to visualize as they are listening.
How have you been keeping creative during the pandemic?
I am I true product of an artist from a pandemic. I started to pursue music in December 2020. It all started when I wrote two songs with my friend Elijah Woods. I got the song writing bug and from there I couldn’t stop myself from writing. Now there is an EP of music ready to be released!
I was able to work remotely in the safety of my house while connecting with people around the world, many of whom I would normally never get the chance to work with. I made some incredible friends in the process.
Staying creative during the pandemic for me wasn’t hard at all. I could say the pandemic had a silver lining for me because it gave me time to write all the stories I had lived before the pandemic in my chaotic normal life. I was able to paint a picture of what my late teen years and early 20s look like. I can look back on those experiences and see them as life lessons. I like to think I’m the guinea pig for my fans.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Tightrope! It’s my latest single about cancel culture and how scary the Internet can be. The lyrics are clever, and the production is absolutely stunning. It has a very spooky dark pop theatrical vibe.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/artists?
My current favourites are Kayla Diamond, Jaime Fine, Odreii, Tate McRae, Chris Grey, The Pistolswhips, 347aidan, Lennon Stella, Scott Helman, Shawn Mendes, and Mimika.
