Five Questions With Zoocrates

Montreal, QC-based artist, Zoocrates was created in 2014 by Argentinian songwriter Daiana Bolini. Recently, she has unveiled her debut album, Bug In The System.

Zoocrates music is a combination of alternative rock-pop, indie pop, dream pop, electro-rock, and acoustic music. Bug In The System is a journey through different aspects of the mind. It leads us to disruptive realities as a search for self-acceptance and connection with our emotions.

Check out the album below, and find out more about Zoocrates via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! I’m Daiana from Zoocrates, my alternative rock-pop project created in Argentina and based in Montreal.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I like to combine classical guitars or clean electrics with electronic drums, synths with a mysterious character, a powerful bass and strings. A lot of melodies come to me while I’m biking, just playing random things on my guitar, trying to sleep, or even dreaming. If I feel like I’m not stealing too much from another artist (especially if I still remember it the next day), I record that on my phone and then I figure out the chord progression. Usually, the last part of my writing process is lyrics but sometimes while humming the raw melody I come up with some phrases.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

The pandemic was actually responsible for my decision to finally record and drop my first album. I had so much time to spare during last summer and I was feeling pretty bummed so music was a real savior.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Well, according to my friends and Spotify…I’d say “Maze of Doors”, a rock-pop track that I love, which actually talks about a dream I had. The story was so strange and fascinating that I had to use it for a song.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Lately, I’ve been listening a lot to Half Moon Run and Alvvays but I also like Bobby Bazini, Salomé Leclerc, Ariane Moffatt, Rush, Arcade Fire, and many more!
