As if Valentine’s Day was not sweet enough for fans of 30 Going on 13, the pop punk band from Barrie, ON. Yesterday they were treated to the release of a brand new single, “Dear Kimberly”, from the band. “Dear Kimberly” is a follow-up to their debut EP (2019) called The Best 3p We’ve Ever Made! It was produced by Matt Snell at Genesis Sound in Toronto and it has already garnered some attention by local radio station MAX FM, who were first to drop the song on The Punk Show with Amanda Dyke.
One listen to the song’s lyrics and you instantly come to realize how quirky and fun this band is,
We wanted to write a love song, and phrase it in a way that made sense with our nostalgic style. After we wrote a few lines, we realized we were writing about Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger. What 90s kid didn’t love her? From there, it pretty much wrote itself, and we knew we had a really catchy tune. Special thanks to Matt Snell of Genesis Sound in Toronto, who engineered the track, and Kristian Montano who Mastered it- you helped us sound amazing!
Who else can pull off a love song about a pop culture icon on Valentine’s Day? Perhaps a band that firmly believes its ok to have fun and make music at the same time. Their formula is certainly working for them and we can’t wait to hear what they get up to next.
“Dear Kimberly” is available for streaming on Spotify, or can be purchased on Bandcamp or iTunes. Follow the band for more details!
