Finally, this beat goes on! 2022 JUNO Award nominees revealed

The JUNO Awards is one step closer to their triumphant return to the stage with the announcement of the 2022 JUNO Award nominations.

Leading the way with six nominations is Montreal pop-sensation Charlotte Cardin, including Single of the Year, Artist of the Year, Pop Album of the Year, and Album of the Year. Tied for second are international sensations, Justin Bieber and the Weeknd, both of whom share nominations for Single of the Year, Artist of the Year, and the TikTok JUNO Fan Choice with Cardin.

In keeping to the ever-changing Canadian music landscape, five new categories were added to this year’s celebration. Indigenous Artist or Group of the year has been split into two awards: Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year (this year’s nominees include Adrian Sutherland, DJ Shub, Jayli Wolf, Shawnee Kish, and Snotty Nose Rez Kids) and Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year (this year’s nominees include Fawn Wood, Joel Wood, Manitou Mkwa Singers II, NIMKII & THE NINIIS and Young Spirit). Meanwhile, Rap Recording of the Year has also split into two new categories: Rap Single* of the Year (this year’s nominees include anders and FRVRFRIDAY, bbno$, Charmaine, NorthSideBenji & Dj Charlie B and Pressa) and Rap Album/EP of the Year (this year’s nominees include Belly, Haviah Mighty, NAV, NorthSideBenji, and Pressa). Finally, brand new to the nominations is Underground Dance Single of the Year (this year’s nominees BLOND:ISH, Carlo Lio ft. MC Flipside, HNTR, Jayda G and KOREA TOWN ACID)

After the 2020 and 2021 festivals and ceremonies were scrapped in the wake of first waves of the global COVID-19 pandemic in favour of virtual presentations, the 2022 JUNO Week will take place from May 9th to May 15th, with the culminating broadcast of the 51st annual JUNO Awards returning to a live setting on May 15th from Toronto’s Budweiser Stage. The 2022 JUNO Awards will broadcast live across Canada at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Listen, and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos.
