Five Questions With David Boyd Janes

2020 nominee for Rising Star at CMAOntario Awards and winner of the 2019 Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, David Boyd Janes has released his brand new single, “Couldn’t Hurt” via Warner Music Canada.

David co-wrote Couldn’t Hurt with country superstar James Barker, fellow CMAOntario Award nominee Aaron Alan and industry veteran Joe Ernewein. A Toronto, Ontario native, David Boyd Janes is being recognized as one of country music’s most promising new artists – and he owes everything he has accomplished so far to the decision he made two years ago of quitting his job to focus on music fulltime.  The valiant move paid off quickly; 2019 was a monstrous year for the budding country star.

“I truly feel like I’m stuck in the greatest dream I’ve ever had and I hope I never wake up,” says David. “I have no idea what’s around the corner but I’m really excited to greet it and embrace it all.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey everyone! My name is David Boyd Janes! Nice to meet ya 🙂 Thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit more about me and my music! Appreciate ya!

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

My music consists of several layers of my life and life encounters – from fishing, being out in the backcountry most of the time to relationships and things surrounding my personal life. As a songwriter, I do my best to share my personal stories and experiences with my fans through my music. I truly feel this is the best way to get to know me. My favourite thing about country music as a listener and a fan myself is being on the receiving end of an artist story they are trying to share.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

Unfortunately not due to the current pandemic but I’ve been fortunate enough to play a few acoustic shows in people’s backyards along with headlining my very first drive-in concert in Barrie, Ontario. As for what you can expect when you come to see me and my boys play:

I might be biased but I truly feel I have been blessed with some of the best musicians in this country and they put on a hell of a show… I just sing along 😉 that being said you can expect a great time and come prepared to dance your ass off!

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

This is an easy one! My brand new single “Couldn’t Hurt.” I was fortunate to co-write this with James Barker from the James Barker Band, Aaron Allen & Joe Ernewein! It’s such a fun song and I really hope the fans enjoy it as much as we enjoyed writing and recording it!

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

This is a really tough one to answer because I have so many favourites. I’m incredibly proud of Canadian country music right now and the impact it’s making globally not just in Canada!

Artist I look up to and this is just naming a few would include the whole crew of JBB, Brett Kissel, Meghan Patrick, Aaron Goodvin, Dean Brody, Tim Hicks, Tenille Townes, Paul Brandt, and my personal favourite Jason McCoy! Many more but I think you get the picture! Canadian country music is smashing right now with unbelievable talent.
