Review – Instant Rivalry

Album: Whiskey and Lead
Release Date: December 6, 2019
Genre: Country

When I was first approached to review this album, I honestly thought Instant Rivalry was a rock band. I honestly hadn’t heard of them before this – which is surprising considering I enjoy a lot of smaller local country bands. Hailing from Prince Edward County, this brother-sister duo released their new album Whiskey and Lead on December 6th, 2019. And I can assure you they are most definitely a country band.

At first listen I hear bits of Lady Antebellum and Little Big Town mixed in with their own unique sound. It’s a refreshing mix of new and old country that combines all of their talents and whittles it down to fifteen songs. They aren’t just performers though. With their mix of knowledge, they managed to write, produce and record all songs pretty much on their own. They traveled down to Nashville and managed to record all 15 songs live off the floor over a span of two days! Now that’s talent!

I don’t think I can pick an overall favourite tune as they are all special in their own sense. There’s a mix of ballads and high energy music that will appeal to all music lovers. They tell a story with each of their songs, which is why I love country music so much. If you want something different but just a little familiar I suggest picking up Whiskey and Lead.
