On August 24, 2019, from 2 pm to 9 pm, Monstercat Compound takes place in Vancouver, BC. We teamed up with the event to conduct interviews with some of the Canadian talent leading up to the big day. First off, we spoke with Kelowna, BC’s Eric Disero, who recently released his new single, “Like That” featuring Joshua Smith. Check it out below and find out more about him in our interview.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Sure! My name is Eric Disero (more commonly known as Disero) and I’m a musician/producer from Kelowna, BC
Monstercat’s Compound takes place on August 24, and you’ll be taking part in the incredible event, how does it feel to be on the lineup for this?
It feels amazing. I’m so fortunate to be a part of compound this year and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s definitely an event I’ve wanted to play for years now.
Have you taken part in this before?
I have never taken part in compound up until this point, although I have followed the event in the past and love what they’re doing.
Monstercat has built up a roster of world-renowned artists, of the other artists on the lineup, who are you most excited to check out?
I’m honestly looking forward to checking out every single one of them. Conro has been a close friend of mine for quite some time now so I’m really looking forward to seeing him bring his fresh tracks to the table. There’s no shortage of talent in the lineup and I can’t wait. I’m sure I’ll be feeling inspired afterward.
How do you go about choosing what tracks to perform at an event of this nature?
Track selection is always a tough thing for me. I come from a background as a musician and not a DJ so my approach has always been to find what I connect with musically and explore that. I generally like to stay away from well-known tracks from other artists and I love making mashups and edits that include my own production, as well as carving out space for live instrumentation in the set. I much prefer playing shows with live elements mixed in with the DJ setup. At Compound, I’ll be playing keyboard with my friends Marshall and Cam on trumpet and drums.
Explain your performance style in less than 10 words, and go!
Wingin’ it hot and fast.
Are you performing at any other festivals or events this summer that you’d like to tell us about?
No other shows this summer but we’ll have some on the books for 2020.
If you were to put together your own festival or event, which three Canadian artists (besides yourself) would you include?
That’s an awesome question. Anomalie, Kaytranada, and Conro, and we would all jam together. In a perfect world.
What makes Monstercat a unique label to work with, from your perspective as an artist?
Monstercat is a great label with a strong history. I think their separation of “Uncaged” with “Instinct” sets them apart in that they’re broadening the scope of what fits with the label in a unique way. The Instinct side of the label is much more focused on music that can potentially be recreated in a live or hybrid setting and that’s very appealing to artists such as myself that come from musician backgrounds. That’s aside from the fact that they are just a great crew of people as well.
Last but not least, do you have any big news (ie: new album, new single, upcoming tour dates, etc) that you’d like to share?
I have a new single coming out on August 27th on Monstercat that I’m very excited about. Aside from that, I’m currently embarking on an album that I’m shooting to release next spring.
