Ontario’s Tia McGraff is no stranger to Canadian Beats, and for good reason. The award-winning singer-songwriter and children’s author has recently released her album, Stubborn In My Blood, as well a video for the title track.
Check out the lyric video below, and find out more about Tia in our newest segment of Five Questions With.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I grew up on the North Shore of Lake Erie, ON Canada and began my professional music career after winning the Canadian Open Country Singing Contest. I moved to Nashville in 1999 and met and married my husband and musical partner Tommy Parham there. We spend our time between ON and Nashville when not on the road touring.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I am a singer/songwriter and considered Americana in the States and more Roots based here in Canada.
Tommy and I co-write most of our songs. He tends to lean toward the melody and I lean toward the lyrics. I love writing story songs…telling the story through music.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
We have some great concerts here in ON and will be back in Nashville, Florida, and Boston in March/April. Heading to the UK in Sept.
Tommy and I do most of our shows as an acoustic singer/songwriter duo..songs and stories. However, when needed, we bring in some great musicians to fill out the band sound.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Let Em See Your Strong is our anthem! This song is reaching beyond demographics and boundaries and becoming a hit song!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
Jann Arden
Elyse Saunders is a dear friend and amazing talent
Rush
