Andre Pettipas Teams Up with Madeline Salter for Nostalgic Alt-Rock Anthem “Last Night’s Moonlight”
Nova Scotia’s Andre Pettipas joins forces with Newfoundland and Labrador singer-songwriter Madeline Salter on “Last Night’s Moonlight,” a nostalgic alt-rock collaboration that taps into the restless energy of the late ’90s and early 2000s.
Written during the winter of 2026 in the green room of The Carleton in Halifax, the track grew out of a creative connection sparked through shared festival appearances, including the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) and Giantstock. With influences ranging from Hole and Nirvana to Queens of the Stone Age, the pair turn a seemingly perfect night into something more complicated—a memory caught somewhere between missing a moment and missing the person you were when you lived it.
Recorded across three Nova Scotia studios, including Loel Campbell’s Eureka! Studio, “Last Night’s Moonlight” features Pettipas and Salter on vocals, with Pettipas also handling guitar, bass, keys, production, and mixing, alongside Dante Kierstead on drums.
Review
“Last Night’s Moonlight” wastes no time making an impact, kicking off with a heavy rock introduction before Madeline Salter’s rocking vocals take the lead. Her delivery is reminiscent of the commanding voices of ’90s alternative rock, fitting perfectly with the track’s gritty, nostalgic sound. Combined with an intense beat and plenty of attitude, the song immediately demands to be played loud.
One of the strongest elements is the vocal interplay between Madeline and Andre Pettipas. Their voices complement each other perfectly, adding energy while giving the track an undeniably catchy, sing-along quality. The repeated “holding on to hopelessness” quickly works its way into your head, while “you’ve got to say it with confidence” feels made to be shouted back by a live crowd.
Lyrically, “Last Night’s Moonlight” takes us through the aftermath of a night that’s hard to leave behind, with vivid references to coffee, cigarettes, sleeplessness, and memories that continue to linger. Driven by an intense beat, catchy lyrics, and the natural chemistry between Pettipas and Salter, the track delivers a strong dose of ’90s rock nostalgia while still feeling fresh, memorable, and made to sing along to.
