Tash Sultana, Daisy The Great
June 9, 2026
MTELUS, Montreal, QC

After conquering Montreal as a headliner at the 2022 Montreal Jazz Festival in front of tens of thousands of fans and previously filling Place Bell in 2018, it was a pleasant surprise to see Tash Sultana return to the city for a much more intimate evening at MTELUS on June 9. While the venue was smaller than some of the stages she has commanded in the past, the anticipation in the room was no less intense. Fans packed the historic theatre eager to witness one of the most unique live performers of their generation up close.

Opening the night was Daisy the Great, whose blend of indie-pop harmonies and quirky songwriting proved to be an ideal warmup for the evening. The New York duo delivered a charming and energetic set filled with catchy melodies and playful chemistry. Their vocal interplay was particularly impressive, drawing enthusiastic responses from a crowd that seemed unfamiliar with some of the material but quickly won over by the band’s charisma. By the end of their set, they had successfully set the tone for the night while earning plenty of new fans in the process.

When Tash Sultana finally took the stage, the performance began in a surprisingly restrained fashion. The opening songs felt more like a slow burn than an immediate explosion, as Sultana gradually built the atmosphere and settled into a rhythm. For a moment, it seemed as though the audience was waiting for the spark that would ignite the room. Then, around the 15-minute mark, everything clicked into place.

From that point forward, Sultana was simply mesmerizing. Armed with an arsenal of instruments, looping pedals, and boundless creativity, they transformed the stage into a one-person orchestra. Layer upon layer of guitar, percussion, synths, and vocals came together in real time, creating sprawling soundscapes that showcased both technical brilliance and emotional depth. Each song seemed to grow organically, taking the audience on unexpected journeys that demonstrated why Sultana has earned such a devoted global following.

What stood out most was the contrast between the scale of the performance and the intimacy of the setting. Having seen Sultana headline massive festival grounds and arena-sized venues, experiencing that same larger-than-life musicianship within the close confines of MTELUS felt like a rare privilege. Every intricate guitar run, every loop, and every spontaneous moment felt magnified by the connection between artist and audience.

By the end of the night, any memories of the slower start had long vanished. Tash Sultana delivered the kind of performance that leaves concertgoers talking about it long after the house lights come up. It was a reminder that while they are more than capable of captivating tens of thousands, there is something truly special about witnessing that talent in a room where every note feels personal. An unforgettable evening and one of Montreal’s most rewarding concert experiences of the year.
