First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Absolutely! We’re Alesha & Brendon Bondy – The Rural Routes, a Country Duo from Edmonton, Alberta.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
“Hobby” is a catchy song about the highs and lows of a one-sided relationship. It was written by Dave Thomson and Patricia Conroy and produced in Alesha’s home province of New Brunswick. It’s doing really well. In its first week at radio, it was a Top 5 Country and Top 10 CanCon and Indie download at Canadian Radio.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
We both work really well together under pressure. If we put a timeline on completing a song, we’re usually successful with that approach. We have an in-home recording studio, but we’re usually more inspired to write before a show or when we’re on the road and it’s just the two of us.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Since it’s release, we’ve been very busy performing shows in support of “Hobby”. We just finished our eighth show in a row, and we’re excited to continue our regional tour throughout the rest of October.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
We’ve been fortunate to have many different kinds of performance experiences during our career, but we would probably both agree that our biggest accomplishment and most defining for us was a performance at Rogers Place in Edmonton to 12,000 + people.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
We both really love our friend Noeline Hofmann from Southern Alberta. We first met Noeline when she was just 15 years old. She was competing in Vegreville’s Country 106.5 Star Search. We had won the contest the previous year, so we were some of the songwriting judges. Recently we were treated to an intimate acoustic performance of hers. She’s doing amazing things, and we’re very proud of her.
