Lauren Ash Announces Debut Album Call Me When You Get This Out September 11
Lauren Ash is ready to rock – unfiltered, unguarded, and louder than ever. The award-winning actress and comedian has released of her debut album, Call Me When You Get This, out now.
With Call Me When You Get This, Ash proves she’s not just stealing scenes—she’s stealing hearts and shredding expectations with gut-punching, emotionally charged pop-punk anthems. Fueled by the fallout of a blindsiding breakup, the album is a high-voltage concept record that turns heartbreak into rock catharsis, with all songs co-written by Ash.
Produced by multi-platinum songwriters and producers Aaron Verdonk (Stereos) and Jesse Colburn (Avril Lavigne) of AXXNPACT, the album is structured around five stages of grief; from the dazed haze of “Diet Coke and Lexapro” to the biting humour of the single “Cool Story Bro” and the triumphant finale, “The Day I Got Over You.”
Call Me When You Get This fuses soaring harmonies, distorted guitars and razor-sharp wit with a vulnerability that cuts deep. The record unspools the emotional wreckage from the unexpected collapse of a relationship. It traces the chaos and clarity that followed by using real audio moments Ash recorded of herself throughout her breakup. These authentic, uncensored moments are woven between songs, blurring the line between life and art. This isn’t just an album – it’s a living, bleeding diary for anyone who’s ever loved and lost – a raw, aching document of survival and transformation.
“I don’t know how I would have gotten through the last year of my life if it hadn’t been for this music project,” says Ash. “My ultimate message with this album is not solely one of empowerment. It is also about honouring your grief. Ultimately, I think there’s a beauty in admitting that your heart has been changed forever. As someone who is very well known for playing a beloved television character, I am excited to put something creative into the world that is actually the real me.”
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Sure! My name is Lauren Ash! I’m an actor who is most well known for my role as Dina on Superstore and as Lexi on Not Dead Yet. I also host a podcast called “True Crime and Cocktails” and a brand new baking show for Flavour Network called “Halloween Bakeshop”. I’m a proud Canadian, an animal rescue advocate and I’m a musician who is releasing her debut album and going on her first tour!
Call Me When You Get This is such a bold debut. What made now the right time to step into music full-force?
Really it’s mostly been timing! I have been blessed to have been working full time in LA as an actor on TV for about 12 years. I’ve had some downtime over the last year and that allowed me to spend time in the studio writing and recording this record as well as planning my first tour. I like to keep busy and to always have a project to work on so it’s been great to be able to have the time to fully throw myself into this process.
Pop-punk is having a huge revival right now. What drew you to this sound for your first record?
Pop punk has always been my favourite genre of music. It’s the music that I listen to the most and have always gravitated towards. It would have felt inauthentic for me to pursue any other genre, to be honest.
You co-wrote every track. Can you walk us through your creative process?
There’s a couple of different ways we approached writing the album. I usually start coming up with an idea by writing lyrics and melodies at the same time. I’ll pull out my acoustic guitar and play around until I find something that feels interesting. It’s usually an improvised process as opposed to me sitting down with a pen and paper and writing prompt. Similarly, Aaron and Jesse would often come up with a piece of music and send it to me and then I would come up with a melody and lyrics over top of what they sent. This was the process with “Dumpster Fire”, for example. They sent me a piece of music, I came up with an idea for lyrics and a melody and then we came together and massaged it into the fully formed song together in an afternoon. I actually posted a video with the original voice note I made of this song on my socials! You can hear what my first pass on it was versus the final product!
What was it like working with Aaron Verdonk and Jesse Colburn — producers who carry that Avril Lavigne pedigree and a real pop-punk history?
Aaron and Jesse are incredibly talented songwriters and producers. And they definitely are dialled into the pop-punk genre. Which I think is why they got my musical vibe immediately. The first song we wrote together was “Dumpster Fire”. I think we all must have thought “hey, maybe we’re onto something here” after that. What I love is that they didn’t just push me to replicate that song into 6 other songs that all sound vaguely similar. They approached every song from a blank canvas. And consequently, I feel like every song on this album feels like it’s own vibe, even though they all mesh together so cohesively. I love that “Diet Coke and Lexapro” and “The Day I Got Over You” can somehow live on the same album and also make total sense.
What’s one dream collaboration you’d love to make happen now that you’re officially in the music world?
YUNGBLUD! I am SUCH a huge fan of his. I’m obsessed with his new album and I would absolutely die for an opportunity to collaborate. Such a great vocalist, such a rock star, SUCH great songs, he’s just the full package.
If fans walk away from this album with just one message, what do you hope it is?
That there is a beauty in admitting that your heart has been changed forever. You can have redemption and find happiness again but I think it’s also okay to admit that you’ll never be the same. I think it’s unrealistic to suggest that you’re ever really “over” something that altered your life path in such a profound way. To me, grief never goes away, you just learn to live with it over time.
