From motocross to music city—Tyson Hanes takes the stage full throttle
Tyson Hanes is a dynamic country singer/songwriter whose path has taken him from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario all the way to the heart of Nashville, Tennessee.
Raised on the thrill of sports, BMX, and motocross, Tyson found that music was always there in the background, waiting to take center stage. A high school guitar class sparked his passion for singing, and before long he formed Asylum Country, a band known for its upbeat energy and unforgettable live shows across the region.
At just 23, Tyson chased his dream head-on—packing his motorcycle and heading to Nashville. He quickly landed a full-time spot at the world-famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge, where his fearless, adrenaline-driven performance style set him apart. From sing-alongs and crowd surfing to climbing speakers and smashing guitars, Tyson built a reputation as a performer who would do anything to make sure the crowd has the time of their lives.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Tyson Hanes. I’m originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. I have been living in Nashville, Tennessee, USA for the past 13 years as a professional singer/songwriter. Of course I love music, but I’m also an adrenaline junkie at heart and love basically anything that goes fast or high!
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
Tanlines is just a simple summertime song about loving the beach, the weather and the beautiful views that come along with it (the women, bikinis and of course, Tanlines)! It’s a song you can throw on while enjoying a day at the pool, sitting on beach with a pina colada in your hand, or floating on the water your friend’s boat! (Cause it’s better to know someone with a boat than own one lol).
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I have quite a few different ways that I go about this. More often than not I start with a lyrical hook and build off that. Sometimes it will be more lyrics to follow and sometimes it will be melody. It just depends on the mood, and which direction feels the most natural.
I also sometimes will get inspiration from the beat of a song I heard on the radio and create my own melody with a similar feel by starting with guitar chords. However, I always keep phone notes for song ideas.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
As this single makes its way across Canadian radio, I would love to create a show tour base around it, but that’s will on depend on the level of success it gets. This is definitely a song I would love to get a music video put together for haha!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
There have been many moments and accomplishments that have been turning points for me.
Giving up basically everything to move to Nashville and make a go of a full-time music career was the biggest turning point. Getting hired on instantly at The World-Famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge was a significant part of the process that I am very thankful for and definitely provided me stages to improve my craft to what it’s become. I’ve met a lot of celebrities who have inspired to keep grinding and performed a lot of shows that have solidified to myself that I am in the right career path.
