Brooklyn Blackmore — where country soul meets boho spirit, with a voice that’s traveled from Nova Scotia to Nashville
Brooklyn Blackmore’s newest single, “Prettier Than Me”, is a cheeky, fun-as-hell anthem for anyone who’s ever crossed paths with a guy more obsessed with his own reflection than making a real connection.
Co-written with Aaron Goodvin and Brent Baxter during a Zoom writing session a few years back, the track blends Brooklyn’s soulful country vocals with playful, razor-sharp storytelling. Packed with sass, wit, and a wink, “Prettier Than Me” turns the all-too-relatable experience of dating a mirror-loving man into a sing-along you can’t help but smile through.
Now, after keeping it under wraps, Brooklyn is finally ready to let the world in on the fun — and trust us, it’s worth the wait.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Brooklyn Blackmore, and I’m a country-pop artist from Three Fathom Harbour. I’m known for my very soulful and free-spirited boho-vibe, heavily influenced by legends like Stevie Nicks, Shania Twain, and modern trailblazers like Miley Cyrus. I’ve been playing music since I was 4 years old, and the passion has never faded. I released my first EP, Get A Little Crazy, in 2020 and have since been releasing singles that I recorded down in Nashville with Matt McClure and Aaron Goodvin. Looking forward, I’m going to be recording my next EP with the amazing Jason Barry of Barrytone Studios, and I’m super stoked to step into this new era of my music.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My newest single, “Prettier Than Me,” is a cheeky and fun-as-hell anthem for anyone who’s ever met a man more into his reflection than a real connection. I had a blast writing this song with Aaron Goodvin and Brent Baxter. We did this session over Zoom a few years ago, so I’m excited to finally share it with everybody!
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I’m really into co-writing, and I love using songwriting as a vessel for my stories and feelings. I’ve been working on a brand-new batch of songs for an upcoming EP, and I want the storytelling to paint you a picture of who I am. The method that’s been inspiring me lately is just sitting down with my co-writer and talking about what’s going on in my life or past experiences, and it almost always sparks an idea for a song. For the days that it doesn’t, I’ve been keeping a list of song title ideas on my phone for years now, and it’s super helpful to pull out to help get the creative juices flowing.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I shot a super fun music video for “Prettier Than Me” at the most beautiful farm in Lawrencetown (you can find it on YouTube). This project was incredibly special to me because not only did I grow up a few minutes down the road from the set, but I was able to have my Dad as part of the video as well. If you’re looking for a good laugh, be sure to check it out – I had some pretty stellar actors on the roster, and their performance brings a smile to my face every time I watch it. Shoutout to my director, Robb Medwid, for knocking another video out of the park!

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Growing up, music has always been part of my life – whether it was fiddle and piano lessons, vocal choirs, or competing on a dance team. I never dreamed it would end up being my calling for a career until my parents encouraged me to compete in the Global Country Star Search in Halifax in 2016. After my performance, my anxiety was through the roof, and I was sure nothing would come out of it for me, but I ended up winning the whole competition! This opportunity launched me into the wonderful world of country music, with a trip to CCMAs as a delegate and a trip to Nashville, where I also got to compete in the North American Country Music Association Awards, where I was awarded Female Entertainer and Vocalist of the Year. This was a whirlwind of a year for me, and it inspired me to continue on as a singer. Since then, I’ve been performing all around the Maritimes, across Canada, Mexico, and Cuba for several “East Coast Kitchen Parties” (join us next year in Jamaica!!) and a few shows in Nashville. I’ve been writing and releasing my own original music since 2020, and I don’t plan on slowing down!
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Somebody I would keep my eyes open for would definitely be Tyler Salsman. He is only 17 years old and has such a deep and rich classic country voice that turns heads. He wowed the judges at the 2024 East Coast Country Star Search, winning the youth category. As part of his prize package, I’ve been privileged to do some co-writing with him to help him get a new single out into the world. It should be released sometime this month, and you won’t want to miss it!
