Miles Canyon blends wit and heart in country songs—earning a thumbs up from Willie Nelson himself.
Blending cheeky storytelling with heartfelt country roots, Miles Canyon is quickly making waves in Canada’s country scene. Originally from Saskatchewan and now based in Alberta, he brings over a decade of touring experience and hundreds of songwriting credits across genres to his rising solo career.
What began as a side project has turned into a full-time passion, earning him spots at the CMAB Awards, CCMAs, The Junos, and more. Known for his powerful vocals and genre-crossing style, Canyon stands out as a must-see performer.
His latest single, “Roaches and Willie,” is a playful ode to Willie Nelson—imagining a post-apocalyptic world where only cockroaches and Willie remain. The song even landed at Willie’s Luck Ranch studio and got his personal thumbs up, featuring a solo by longtime Nelson collaborator Dean Person.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Miles Canyon; I’m a country artist new to Alberta from Saskatchewan.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My most recent release is a song I wrote about Willie Nelson called “Roaches and Willie”. It’s a fun little song about if the world came to an end, there would be nothing left standing but the cockroaches and Willie Nelson.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
My songwriting process varies with every song. Sometimes the music comes first, sometimes it starts with lyrics and melody. Some songs take days to write, and sometimes they come out faster than I can write the words down. The one thing that stays consistent is I’ll never ignore inspiration, when it comes, I drop everything until the song is complete.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
In support of this release, I recently released the music video for Roaches and Willie and am set for several podcast appearances. I’ll be playing a tour of exciting shows this summer, one of which will be a debut performance at Country Thunder in Calgary!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Throughout my career, I’ve had many opportunities and accomplishments that have helped shape me into the artist I am today. I’ve played several cross-country tours, performed with a countless number of incredible artists, and met so many amazing people in my musical journey…….. but one of the biggest highlights comes from Roaches and Willie. Before its release, I had the honour of Willie Nelson himself being one of the first people to hear the song, and I’m proud to say that he loved the song!
Last, but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
As far as an up-and-coming artist, there’s a fella from around here in Alberta called Drew Gregory that I like. He loves to farm and make great songs!
