Emerging Canadian pop artist L. Eskaye unveiled her infectious debut single “Gucci Body” on March 15th across all streaming platforms. Blending hypnotic hip-hop beats with sultry pop vocals, “Gucci Body” is an empowering anthem celebrating confidence and self-worth. Produced by Deep Jandu (known for his work with Karan Aujla and Sidhu Moosewala), the track uses “Gucci” as a metaphor for good, emphasizing the value of hard work and knowing your worth beyond material status.
Hailing from the vibrant neighborhood of Malvern, L. Eskaye’s sound is a powerful mix of her cultural heritage and the musical influences of icons like Aaliyah, Monica, Britney Spears, and Brandy. With a natural gift for songwriting and years spent honing her craft, she’s ready to take her place in the spotlight.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m L. Eskaye, a Toronto artist making music for the ladies! My sound is sexy, cool, and full of energy—made for partying, having fun, and owning your confidence. At its core, my music celebrates self-love, empowerment, and knowing your worth. I’ve been writing and creating for years, and now I’m stepping into the spotlight on my own terms. Gucci Body is just the beginning—I want to make music that hypes you up, reminds you of your power, and makes you move like you own it.
“Gucci Body” is such an infectious debut single! What was the inspiration behind the song, and what message do you hope listeners take away from it?
“Gucci Body” is all about self-love in its purest form. In this context, “Gucci” isn’t about luxury—it’s a mindset, a reminder to treat yourself with the highest level of love and respect. It’s about feeling your best, knowing your worth, and putting in the work to truly love yourself. I was inspired by how I felt listening to Sexy by Rae Sremmurd and Rude Girl by Bantu—both tracks radiate confidence in their own ways and make me feel unstoppable. I wanted to capture that same energy—an anthem for empowerment, self-love, and feeling yourself. “Gucci Body” is about holding your head high, and stepping into your main character moment.
You wrote “Gucci Body” yourself—can you take us inside your songwriting process? Did the lyrics or melody come first?
A) The process was incredibly organic—everything just flowed. Some songs write themselves, and “Gucci Body” was one of those moments. I was in the shower brainstorming song ideas about confidence, self-love, and party anthems when, suddenly, “only Gucci on my body” popped into my head. The lyrics and melody came together almost simultaneously; I remember repeating those 12 bars until I could record a quick voice note. Later that day, I finished the verses in about an hour. Sometimes my process starts with lyrics, sometimes with a melody—it really depends on the moment. With “Gucci Body”, it felt as though the words and melody were already within me, just waiting to be unleashed. I think part of why the process felt so effortless is because it truly reflects my belief that confidence comes from within.
The track was produced by Deep Jandu, who has worked with some major names in the industry. How did that collaboration come about, and what was it like working together?
A)I owe a huge shoutout to Deep Jandu for taking a chance on me when I stepped into his studio with nothing but raw passion. He was incredibly patient, fun-loving, and tremendously talented—he really understood the vibe I was going for. I also have to credit Karan Chahal, who’s been the best person I’ve encountered on this journey. He’s the reason I got to work with Deep and connect with many other big names in the Canadian scene.
You’ve mentioned being influenced by artists like Aaliyah, Monica, Britney Spears, and Brandy. How have they shaped your musical style?
A) I love this question—each of these incredible women has influenced me in her own unique way. Aaliyah’s angelic voice and strong yet mellow presence always leave me in awe. Monica’s depth and storytelling in her music have inspired my own writing style. Brandy’s unique, uplifting sound was on constant repeat throughout high school and taught me the power of relatable lyrics. And of course, Britney Spears—her captivating performances, blending sexiness with charm, set the standard for what it means to be an entertainer.
Where can fans see you perform next, and how can they stay connected with you?
Right now my focus is launching “Gucci Body” and seeing where that journey takes me—followed by the release of my second single, Down. I can’t wait to step on stage and share my energy with you all, but everything is unfolding in its own time.
