Denielle Bassels releases new single, “Woman Like Me”

Canadian JUNO-nominated jazz chanteuse DENIELLE BASSELS returns with a new single, “Woman Like Me,” a bold and bluesy jazz anthem of self-empowerment, and a celebration of individuality. Releasing on January 10, 2025, on all platforms, “Woman Like Me” is the second offering from Bassels’ forthcoming album It Goes Like This, and showcases her dynamic range as a singer and songwriter.

Sassy, brassy, bold, and dripping with attitude, “Woman Like Me” is a down-and-dirty blues in the vein of Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Ella Fitzgerald, and a declaration of independence for Bassels — and all women. Co-written with her sister Amber, and propelled by the exuberant soloing of pianist Ewen Farncombe, and the wild, often growling trumpet of Alexis Baro, “Woman Like Me” says it all with the line, “I do what I want without apology.”

“I’m celebrating the strength of owning who you are without compromise,” says Bassels. “The track highlights sisterhood and empowerment. It’s a fiery rejection of anyone who dares to underestimate a woman. I intend it as a declaration of independence and self-worth.”
