Proceeds from this star-studded event will benefit Kids Help Phone, supporting mental and emotional health resources for young Canadians.
I’m excited to chat with YASSiN & Sean Terrio about the upcoming concert, their music, and the cause they’re championing this holiday season.
First off, care to tell us about Rock The Halls: A Holiday Benefit Bash and how it came to be?
Hello! YASSiN here! It all began with an idea my fiancé came up with last year. She used to be a radiation therapist and has worked all across Canada treating cancer patients. Around the last holiday season, she came home from the hospital and suggested we put on a show to collect toys for the kids going through treatment at her hospital. Sean & I both loved the idea and got to work making that show happen. The first unofficial Rock The Halls came to be and we were able to collect over 500 toys for the cancer centre! We were so incredibly blown away but the support from our fans and community to help such a great cause, and we all knew that we wanted to make this an event we put on every year for the rest of our lives!
How did the partnership with Canada’s Walk of Fame, RBC, and Kids Help Phone come together?
We have been very lucky in our careers so far to be recognized by Canada’s Walk of Fame’s Emerging Musician Program back in 2021 & RBC’s First Up program this year. Since our relationship with the fine folks at CWOF began, we’ve become close with their director of marketing, Griffin Sokal, and the CEO Jeffery Latimer. Both of them have played a crucial role in our development and have opened many closed doors for us over the years. So when we started the early stages of planning this show, they were the first people we called to get involved. The Walk of Fame already had a relationship with RBC for their Emerging Musician Program, plus we already began working with RBC for their First Up program, so the connection there just made sense! As for KHP, we had played two shows at Casa Loma over the Summer raising money for the charity, and again, things fell into place for all of us to work together! We are so stoked to have these partners, and we hope we get to continue working with all of them as this event develops over the years.
What can attendees expect from the event at the iconic El Mocambo?
Number one…GREAT ENERGY. This show will be filled with some of the best music coming out of Canada. There will be laughs, there will be cries, a red carpet, and there will be a Santa in attendance to take pictures with. This event is the perfect blend of a fancy night out and a PARTY of a rock show. We pride ourselves in the energy we put out on stage, and we can’t wait to dance with all of the beautiful people in the crowd.
The event features amazing artists like Mindflip, Cassie Dasilva, Dallas, and The Free Label. How did you choose the lineup?
We are big fans of all these amazing artists, and have been for a long time! The bonus is each of them has been involved with the Emerging Musician Program or the First Up program. We often call ourselves a genre-bending duo and each of these artists makes music that we love to dip in and out of!
How does giving back through music align with your values as artists?
Sean and I believe that no matter how big your platform is, it is still possible to give back and leave an impact. As our platform has grown over the years we’ve felt like it’s a responsibility to do what we can, when we can to give a little back. If we can raise money for a good cause while showcasing Canadian talent we believe in all while making an audience happy; well we’ve made it.
With JUST TRY and this charity concert, what’s next for YASSiN & Sean Terrio? Any new music or tours on the horizon?
We may or may not be working on a special edition of Just Try with a few new jams coming soon in the new year! And yes! Once we get our feet on the ground after this show is over we are immediately planning our tour!
