QUEBEC CITY COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER ALLISON DANIELS RELEASES HER DEBUT ALBUM, W
Quebec City-based country singer-songwriter Allison Daniels shares her debut album W, via 604 Records/Warner Music Canada today. Working with Ryan Stewart and Tavish Crowe, W is a collection of some of the most personal songs Daniels has written to date. The 12-track project showcases Daniels’ ability to seamlessly blend rock with traditional country, blues, and pop creating a sound that is uniquely hers.
“This album reflects my journey which has been filled with growth and change. I hope that each song serves as a reminder that you should stay true to yourself. Many of the songs on this album are ones of empowerment and describe the challenges I’ve faced as a woman,” says Daniels.
“I decided to name the album W, as that letter carries a multitude of strong and symbolic meanings for me. Four words that stand out are women, win, warrior, and wonder,” continues Daniels. “This album honours all the strong, fierce women who have played a part in my life and inspired these songs. They also speak to overcoming challenges, surmounting obstacles, and ultimately winning. When writing this album with Ryan and Tavish, many of these tracks evoked my inner strength and determination, I channelled my inner warrior to help tell my story. Lastly, ‘W’ signifies wonder. These songs invite listeners to celebrate what makes us unique and extraordinary. I can’t wait for you all to listen.”
Daniels landed the coveted spot of the iHeart Radio Future Star program back in March and her song “We Both Know” secured her Stingray Music’s New Country Trending Track this spring.
Raised in Quebec City, Daniels is the daughter of a musician and began learning guitar and writing songs at age 11. Her love for country music came from exploring the genre online. Pulling influence from artists like Carrie Underwood, Eric Church and Chris Stapleton to find her voice in the genre, Daniels also taps into her rock and blues sides, finding inspiration in bands like Greta Van Fleet, which lends to her swagger when recording her vocals and performing on stage. Her hard work and determination have allowed her to share the stage with Country superstar, Keith Urban at Festival d’été de Québec in 2015. It also landed her in the quarterfinals on Quebec’s wildly popular TV Show, La Voix, and she opened for CCMA Award-winning artist Tim Hicks on his Quebec run in 2018
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! I’m Allison Daniels, a country singer-songwriter from Québec. My music focuses on sharing stories that empower women and highlight strength, resilience, and authenticity. Growing up, I was inspired by powerful female artists like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Miranda Lambert, who helped shape the narrative for women in country music. I’m excited that my debut album, “W”, which is finally out, really captures those themes of empowerment and personal growth. I hope it resonates with listeners and inspires them to embrace their own strength and individuality.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My recent release, “W”, is a deeply personal album that captures different facets of love, heartbreak, and growth. It’s a reflection of the journey I’ve been on, both as an artist and as a person. Each song tells a story, whether it’s about finding strength in difficult moments or celebrating the beauty of resilience. I drew inspiration from my own experiences and from artists like Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves, blending heartfelt lyrics with a country sound. “W” is about embracing who you are, even in the face of challenges, and I hope it resonates with everyone who listens to it.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
When it comes to songwriting, the melody always comes first for me. English isn’t my first language, so I started writing songs with my godfather, a native anglophone. I’d come up with the melody and an idea of what I wanted the song to be about, and he would write the lyrics. Since then, I’ve continued this approach. The melody is my strength and often reflects how I’m feeling. I also use a technique where I sing random words—what I think is called ‘yaourt’—to shape the melody. This helps me capture the feel of the song and sometimes sparks ideas for the lyrics. I don’t like writing alone because I tend to overthink, which can affect the authenticity of the song. Writing with others keeps the process fast and natural, allowing the music to flow more freely.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I’m really excited for what’s coming with this release. I’ve got some festival dates coming up, and I’m hoping to secure a tour spot early next year—fingers crossed on that! Fans can definitely expect more personal content coming out on my socials and YouTube very soon. I’m prepping some behind-the-song videos to dive deeper into the writing process, plus some acoustic performances that I can’t wait to share!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Looking back on my musical career two moments that I consider significant turning points are performing with Keith Urban and signing my first record deal with 604 Records. Singing with Keith Urban was an incredible experience and a major validation of my talent. Securing the record deal with 604 Records was also a huge milestone, marking the beginning of a new chapter in my career and opening doors to many exciting opportunities.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I’d recommend checking out LAURIE. She’s a talented artist from Québec with a fresh sound and a unique style that really stands out. I think her music has a lot to offer, and I’m excited to see where her career takes her. I hope you enjoy discovering her work!
