Welcome to Canadian Beats. Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Maeesha B, a singer/songwriter from Ottawa. I’ve loved music since I was young and decided to start my career early on in life. I always knew this was my passion and that pursuing music was my lifelong dream. I love to create music in various genres, including R&B, Pop, Rap, and Afro beats. I also enjoy mixing different languages, especially French and English, since I find it makes my sound unique. I’m very excited to share my musical journey with you all!
Please tell us about your debut EP, If Only U Knew?
This EP is a dynamic journey through a range of positive emotions. It features songs that make you reflect on love, tracks that get you up and dancing, and feel-good songs that radiate confidence. Each song is designed to take you through different moods and experiences, creating a unique and enjoyable musical adventure. I can’t wait for you all to hear it!
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
My creative process varies, but it usually starts with finding a beat I really like. Sometimes, I create a basic beat myself and write lyrics to it. Other times, I collaborate with producers who build on my ideas. Once I have a beat, I explore melodies that fit well, recording different versions until I find the right ones. With melodies set, I begin writing lyrics that naturally flow with the beat. This writing process allows me to create tracks that resonate deeply with both myself and my audience. I say this because I don’t only write about my personal experiences but I also love to draw inspiration from other people’s stories and experiences. It’s through this blend of personal and shared narratives that I aim to create music that connects and reaches the most people who can relate to my songs.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming shows, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to?
I’m excited to support this new release in many ways. My fans and supporters can expect a lot of exciting content! I’ve got a music video coming out very soon for one of the tracks on the EP called “Prove It,” and I can’t wait for everyone to see it. My team and I put in a lot of hard work on the video, and it’s going to look amazing. We filmed in a light showroom and a water room, which was a surreal experience.
In addition to the music video, I have performances coming up. Details will be posted on my social media page closer to the dates, so stay tuned for all the latest updates and announcements!
What has been the highlight of your music career so far?
Performing on stage has been the highlight of my music career because it’s where I feel most alive and connected with my audience. The energy, excitement, and interaction with everyone create a magical atmosphere that’s incredibly fulfilling. It’s a moment where all the hard work and dedication come together, and I get to share my music in its purest form, leaving a lasting impact on both myself and my listeners. I had the incredible opportunity to perform on the Boys of Summer tour in the US in 2022, a dream come true where I performed almost every two days throughout the entire summer. These moments truly give me even more dedication to my journey, showcasing the immense love and support that drive me forward.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I would recommend they check out Ruth B. When I first heard “Lost Boy,” I continuously covered the song. Her heartfelt lyrics and soothing melodies always resonate with me. Ruth B.’s ability to tell stories through her music is truly captivating, and her authenticity and emotional depth inspire me as an artist.
