“You are the Road” takes Adventurine on a musical odyssey from the South of France to Nashville
The new single from Adventurine, “You are the Road,” is out now, after two years of collaboration and travel between the artist’s home in Southern France and the U.S. capital of country music Nashville.
From the laid-back banjo groove of the introduction to producer Dave Strumfeld’s triumphant New Orleans-style piano solo, the song is infused with country, folk, and blues influences including the Dead South, Allison Krauss & Robert Plant, the Be Good Tanyas and Dr. John.
The title track of a five-song EP recorded in Nashville in 2022, “You are the Road” was inspired by the musician’s determination to travel and perform again after the strict Covid lockdowns in France, as well as to heal from a broken heart.
She says:
“There was a real need to blow off steam and connect with other human beings after the pandemic, whether that was in relationships or partying too much. Sometimes, I almost lost my way, but I always came back to music as my touchstone and my path.”
The name Adventurine, a combination of the green stone aventurine and the word adventure, came to the artist during her two solo musical tours around the US. She couch-surfed, worked on a farm, and spent 20 hours on a bus with a leaking toilet so she could visit Nashville, as well as playing at the Women of Folk Festival in Pennsylvania twice, and touring with folk band The Wild Hymns.
The You Are the Road EP is the result of a six-week American trip in 2022, while the video for the song was filmed in January 2024 against the stunning backdrop of the mountains near Nice.
The rest of the songs from the EP will be released during the course of this year. A professional musician, Adventurine also plays violin and guitar and sings in various bands in France, and works as a news editor.
