JULIE AUBÉ OF LES HAY BABIES RELEASES NEW SOLO EP, BOILING OVER
Singer, songwriter, and self-proclaimed “Acadian sweetheart” JULIE AUBÉ celebrates the release of her new EP, Boiling Over.
In the era of trends and the insatiable search for novelty, Julie Aubé makes art without worrying about standards. Expertly balancing her love for country, folk, and all things vintage, Boiling Over takes inspiration from the not-so-distant past, painting vivid pictures that set the indelible scenes for the five countrified tracks making up her first fully English album. Imagine the dark corners of a rural tavern, walls armed with wood panels, and a warmth that invites itself in and illuminates the room.
“Modern, but timeless,” is how the New Brunswick-based Acadian artist describes her new self-produced EP. Fusing electrifying passes of Hammond organ straight out of the 70s with warm violin solos inspired by popular country music, she sings about the misfortunes and challenges affecting a younger generation. Jam-packed full of charm, this is Julie Aubé with no limits.
Named one of 15 Spring Albums You Need to Hear by CBC Music, the record’s release is also accompanied by a music video for the album cut, “Labor of Love,” created by Aurum Waves Studio in Moncton, NB. The song was written as a tribute to Aubé’s father, who also appears in the video working with his hands as he has always done. It’s something she celebrates: talking about the beauty of things made and repaired with care, by real people.
