OUT TODAY ON NEXT DOOR RECORDS Premieres Imaginative Focus Track “Whip Around feat. Darkus Millon”
Hua Li 化力 the enigmatic “half-Chinese, half-militant, half-rapper of your heart” presents her highly anticipated LP ripe fruit falls but not in your mouth via Next Door Records.
Her most audacious and evocative project to date transports us into a metaphorical garden of her inner world, from navigating traumatic memories to reclaiming spaces of healing and celebration. ripe fruit harvests introspective lyricism with an infectious blend of hazy R&B, hip-hop, jazz, and electronica oozing from lead singles “Cherrier”, “Part Time Muses” and “Sanctions of the Heart”. Alongside this announcement, Hua Li shares “Whip Around” her collab with fellow Montreal indie rapper Darkus Millon. “Whip Around” harnesses Millon’s hip-hop improv roots as he freestyles with flair over the piano-driven sections.
Speaking about the track, she reflects:
“The two of us played with this theme of walking away from and getting pulled back into challenging relationship dynamics again and again, exploring the longing and confusion from both sides of the story.”
Accompanying the single is a self-directed Video8 music video shot by Simona Lepadatu inspired by vintage VHS instructional films and nature documentaries. Captured in the woods of Parc de la Visitation, Hua Li, and Millon embody creatures in their natural habitat, blasting their verses to the camera in the spirit of the pre-language communication of our natural world.
Giving more light on the symbolic meaning of the visuals, she elaborates:
“Darkus Millon and I simply exist in the same environment, curious, fearful and unknowing of the other – metaphorically it is the crux of the lyric, two creatures without a common language to express their desires.
