MAGGIE ANDREW ANNOUNCES UPCOMING EP DAY JOB, SET FOR RELEASE JUNE 7
Nova Scotian singer-songwriter and rising star, Maggie Andrew, announces the release of her new single, “Hurt Myself,” out today on turtlemusik. “Hurt Myself” explores the universal theme of enduring pain for someone who doesn’t understand. Fueled by a dynamic beat from producer, Jared Manierka (Carly Rae Jepsen) and drummer, Loel Campbell (Holy Fuck, Wintersleep), the chorus packs a serious punch. “Hurt Myself” will be the final lead-up single ahead of her debut EP, DAY JOB, set for release on June 7. Catch Maggie Andrew live next week when she performs as part of the JUNO Block Party on March 22.
Buoyed by Andrew’s impassioned performance, Hurt Myself stands on its own in a storied tradition of pop songs about being addicted to the drama of bad romance. We all have to decide for ourselves if the hurt is worth it.
“The song was inspired by two tattoos I got on my leg when I was drunk,” Andrew says. “And slowly it turned into a song about hurting yourself over and over for a person who never even understands your pain.”
Previously released tracks from the EP include “Biting Ice Cream” – a lead off focus track that turns up the heat, causing Pigeons & Planes to exclaim that Maggie Andrew “makes music with teeth.” Next came “Better Than You,” a high-octane track that delivers the alt-pop powerhouse side of Andrew. A moody, brooding, rain-soaked “Come Clean” came out last fall.
