XANA ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE ALBUM THE SEX WAS GOOD UNTIL IT WASN’T OUT MAY 10th
Vancouver-based pop powerhouse Xana today announces her new sophomore album The Sex Was Good Until It Wasn’t, out May 10th. TSWGUIW is a passionate, nuanced portrait of a woman grappling with the realities of past traumas and its aftershocks. Xana also shares the first single and ode to the women of her life – “Better Kind Of Best Friend.”
“Better Kind Of Best Friend”is a sultry track celebrating pleasure, desire, and an unbound love for women. Xana says, “I wanted to write a song that felt shameless and celebratory of sexual pleasure and queer romance. The lyrics are seductive and brazen, and they navigate the intricate dance between submission and dominance, displaying a willingness to do anything to please your lover.”
Having garnered legions of fans from her earworm track “Goddess”— and her debut Tantrums— The Sex Was Good Until It Wasn’t finds Xana looking directly into the darkness and seeing a flicker of light on the other side. For Xana, the hurt she details on the album reflects a necessary truth she needed to see in order to heal. “You can’t hurt me any more than you have already,” she says.
Working with producers Liam Moes and Shane Stephenson, Xana began writing the songs for TSWGUIW after the release of Tantrums in 2022.
“When I started writing this album, I was in therapy doing a lot of looking at my life, my relationships, my patterns, and the things I’m afraid of and the things that still bother me. I needed that time in order to change and heal,” she says.
And making music out of those experiences, Xana continues, helps her have less regrets.
“When people listen to this album, I want them to understand that facing the things that have happened to you—and allowing yourself the space to really move through them and accept the multiple truths of who you are—is such a beautiful process. It can be so good for your soul.”
