MINOE Shares Her Debut EP, Bleeding Heart’s Disco
Canadian powerhouse MINOE reveals her outstanding debut EP Bleeding Heart’s Disco complete with two brand new singles!
Unapologetically herself, MINOE bares all across the impressive 6-track body of work. The EP creates a flawless introduction to the Canadian newcomer, proving herself to be an exceptional talent to watch.
Empowering, honest, and endlessly playable, Bleeding Hearts Disco is your soundtrack to self-acceptance and moving forward. The record touches on experiences of self-doubt, isolation, and rising above that inner saboteur that so many of us battle with. Today’s release offers two previously unheard tracks, “Plastik” and “Love You Bby,” completing her knock-out debut collection.
The dictionary defines a “Bleeding Heart” as a derogatory term referring to a person who is considered dangerously softhearted. However, a bleeding heart is also MINOE’s favorite flower – delicate and surrounded by others just like it on a vine. Through isolation, MINOE came to realize that her sensitivity is a superpower and it’s one that she refuses to be ashamed of. She vows not to change herself or hide her feelings and invites others to do the same. The Bleeding Heart’s Disco welcomes everyone, it’s a world where crying together, dancing together, and healing together is standard practice.
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi Canadian Beats, I’m MINOE! I’m a Canadian pop artist from Nova Scotia (which is why I’m named after a minnow/small fish) and I’m currently based in Montreal. I first began songwriting at around 7 years old to cope with my rough childhood. Since then, my music has evolved to celebrate my identity as a queer person, unite survivors of abuse, and ultimately invite listeners to dance through the hardest parts of life. I’ve always relied heavily on my friends and music during difficult times, so my goal now is to provide fun, dance songs with disco, pop, and house influences that facilitate catharsis at the club (or when you’re dancing around your room singing into a hairbrush, of course).
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My very first project “Bleeding Hearts’ Disco” is coming out on October 6! Sonically it leans heavily toward pop/alt with lots of 70s and 80s influence. Think dark synths, music to dance and cry to at the same time. The themes I explore touch on my experiences moving through life with PTSD, how that has shaped me, and how I choose to move on and lean on dancing with my friends to help me process what I’ve been through.
Fans of artists like Banks, Slayyyter, Madonna, and Tove Lo might enjoy it!
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I used to pull really heavily from my daily life, but since I’ve started writing more for both myself and for other artists, inspiration can really come from anywhere. As soon as I know the subject or the “story,” I can start to build around it quite easily. Something I’ve found really fascinating lately is learning more about the philosophies of producers like Max Martin, Rick Rubin, Linda Perry, and so many more. I’ve really always just followed my own path with songwriting since I started so young, and I still do, but it’s been so fun to learn from the greats and incorporate their tips as well.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
I just wrapped up the European part of my tour with a show in Paris at the Float Festival, my next gig is my EP release party in Montreal on Oct 5 (Thursday)! It will be my first Montreal show this year, and I’m so excited to share the whole EP for the first time. Tickets are on my website!
What’s your goal for 2023?
My main goal for 2023 is to do everything I can to make sure my music is heard by the community I wrote it for. To the survivors, the women, the LGBTQ+ community, and the lonely, creative kids: You’re not weird, you’re not crazy, you deserve to be seen and heard exactly as you are. You enrich this earth. I’m very lucky to have the opportunity to release this music and have the support that I have. These songs are a love letter to my friends and to my most favourite icons of pop culture who have seen me through so much.
