First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Sure, my name is Tim Baker, I’m from St John’s Newfoundland, I’ve made music under my name for about 6 years, with my band Hey Rosetta for about 12 years before that, and I’ve always loved playing in Ottawa, no bs, it’s always one of my favourite shows on a tour.
You will be playing at Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival. Is this your first time performing at this festival?
It actually isn’t the first time I’ve played the festival. We played it years ago with Hey Rosetta! I can remember it was a lot bigger and a lot more fun than we’d expected. I hope so still 🙂
Tell us a bit about your latest release, also called The Festival.
Yes, this is my latest album, I think you’ll like it 🙂 It’s about a lot of things, but the reason I named it The Festival is that I made it during the long stretch of covid isolation at home in Newfoundland, dreaming of being with people – with strangers and music and summer heat. Through the grey of that time, there was this glittering dream of all the things that seemed so impossible then – the things a summer festival epitomizes. And so I made these songs for this – to be played by many people, for many people, in this dream place. I look forward to its manifestation.
If there is anyone who has yet to see you perform live, describe your performance in 3 words.
Hmmm….Dynamic & joyful & tasty
With a full-Canadian lineup, what other artists are you looking forward to checking out during the festival?
I haven’t seen Bedouin Soundclash in a long long time and I always liked them.
Beyond The Pale and Side Hustle Sodas will be at the festival, along with 14 different food trucks. What is your favourite treat to enjoy at festivals?
I would like one burrito bowl and a margarita, please.
