Alex Exists releases “Believe The Hype” featuring Sam Casey and AARYS
Toronto artist, Alex Exists has unveiled his latest single, “Believe The Hype,” from his upcoming debut album, Everybody’s Famous, set for release June 16, 2023, via The Confidence Emperors.
The single uses catchy riffs, melodies, and stunning vocals from Alex, and fellow Toronto artists Sam Casey and AARYS, to serve as a reminder to not believe everything you see or hear and to cultivate a healthy sense of skepticism and independent thought.
“Believe The Hype” was inspired by Alex being a victim of identity theft. It was a violating personal experience for him that really shook his core and pushed the need for himself to express the anger and inauthenticity of the experience. Moreso, this is one part a cautionary tale is about the dangers of blindly accepting popular beliefs and trends without questioning their validity and one part an Alex Exists theme song. It characterizes the modern-day hype machine surrounding trends, suggesting much is fabricated entirely. One may not witness the negative consequences of blindly following the crowd, such as developing unhealthy habits or even falling victim to scams or hoaxes. This is where Alex Exists jumps in as an alternative “Skeptical Messiah” and offers his sarcastic take on the cult of personality to shed light on the issue.
Everybody’s Famous, Alex’s debut album, is a sonic exploration of expressing optimistic nihilism and radical authenticity as we tread into a brave new world. Alex quips the album resembles “a wrestling match with one’s ego.” It represents a story about finding one’s true self amidst the chaos, continuing to create through the chaos while learning how to wield the energy of the changing tides instead of swimming against it – and letting it destroy you. Alex will use art as a weapon for peaceful rebellion inspired by his interactions with the world, channelled through song. Audiences can expect melodic rock tunes ready for both solo listening and the dance floor, filled with ironic humour to highlight social issues, with a satirical dimension.
