Kimberley MacGregor shares her latest single, “Say You’ll Wait”
Kimberley MacGregor has released a new single, “Say You’ll Wait,” in celebration of her upcoming B-Sides tour.
A reformed bank manager, Kimberley realized she was doing a successful job of living someone else’s life—and a poor job living her own. In 2013, she launched her original songs into the world and took centre stage. She has since released three full-length albums and was awarded Female Artist of the Year at both the 2015 and 2016 Edmonton Music Awards. She lovingly crafts and passionately performs songs that will move your heart, change your mind and stomp your feet. Weaving seamlessly between blues, folk, and rock, her common threads are strength, vulnerability, and badassery, always sizzling with soul.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Kimberley MacGregor, I was lovingly raised up as a baby musician in the Edmonton Music Community and now reside on Vancouver Island. I describe my music as ‘Soul, with Teeth,” as I range from Neo-soul through blues on the edge of metal.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My most recent release, ‘Sitting, with Uncomfortable Feelings,’ was released as a digital 10-track album in 2021. I toured the album across Europe in the spring of 2022, and am now venturing out on my first major Canadian tour since the onset of Covid. I am finally releasing physical copies of the album, featuring three previously unreleased B-sides.
The first of these B-Sides is a love song that I wrote for someone I have not met yet, called ‘Say You’ll Wait’. The single and video were released on March 31st, 2023. The video by Heather Hatch is based on a play written and performed by Tai Amy Grauman, who is a powerhouse emerging Canadian actress and playwright. It has been a pleasure to release video content that celebrates some of the incredible talents in my community.
The album was recorded with an all-female studio team, produced by Nashville’s Brandy Zdan and engineered by Emily Bachynski, both of whom are total rockstars in their own right. Having a team that understood and delivered so hard on tone and vibe was amazing, and I am so happy with the result.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I am inspired mainly by my own Emo bullshit. I’ve got big feelings and have found that the healthiest way for me to harness these is to write it all out. Sometimes this journalling weaves itself into a tune, sometimes, I pick and piece from numerous entries as I tend to ruminate. I have learned to harness a little bit more intention and balance in my songwriting, as I am, in reality, actually a pretty happy person! Learning to lean into that happiness in my songwriting has made way for love songs such as “Say You’ll Wait” and “Fill My Cup” and hopeful songs like “Almost There.”
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
Many shows, such wow! I am gearing up to head out on tour this week, starting at Mateada on Salt Spring Island. I will be headed south across BC Mainland, through Southern Alberta, up to Edmonton, then off to Clearwater, BC, for Dunn’ Folkin Around!? A festival where my band will join me. From there, we head through Northern BC, landing in Prince Rupert. I have booked the Ferry back to the Island, and I’m looking forward to seeing these beautiful parts of Northern BC for the first time.
What’s your goal for 2023?
My main goal for 2023 is to weasel my way into the BC music communities and connect with venues and players, especially around my new home on the Island. I am deeply looking forward to spending my first summer on the Island, which will be a big change of pace from my normal festival circuit. I am excited to travel all over the island and take in all the beauty and the songs that it will inspire.
