Toronto electro-pop artist Adam Platek explores connection, loneliness, and the overwhelming weight of endless choices.
There is something unsettling about having too many options. At some point, possibility stops feeling like freedom and starts feeling like an endless cycle of decisions. Another version. Another person. Another swipe. Another life. But with so much choice, how do we know when something is actually right?
Toronto-based electro-pop artist MISSING PET, the solo project of songwriter Adam Platek, confronts that question on his new five-track EP, PITCH DARKNESS.
Blending nostalgic synthesizers, dark-wave textures, and intimate vocal arrangements, the project explores modern relationships, loneliness, desire, and the anxiety of constantly wondering whether something better is just around the corner.
Canadian Beats previously featured MISSING PET’s 2025 EP, MOON RULES, offering readers another look at the Toronto artist’s evolving electro-pop sound.
MISSING PET PITCH DARKNESS – Exploring Love, Loneliness, and Endless Choices
At its heart, PITCH DARKNESS examines how consumer culture has changed the way people approach relationships.
In a world where nearly everything feels replaceable, even human connection can begin to resemble another product to evaluate, compare, and eventually discard.
Platek explains:
“We live in a relentless commercial culture where everything can be replaced. That logic finds its way into our relationships. We compare. We evaluate. We search for the perfect fit. And if it’s not just right, we move on. How did we learn to treat connection as something so disposable?”
Throughout the EP, MISSING PET explores the emotional consequences of that mindset, pairing heavily electronic production with deeply human questions about commitment and connection.
The music reflects the tension between wanting something meaningful and feeling overwhelmed by the endless possibilities modern life presents.
As Platek puts it:
“Maybe connection isn’t about finding the perfect person, place, or version of ourselves. Maybe it’s about deciding what is worth holding onto.”
MISSING PET Examines Modern Romance on “PLASTIK LOVE”
One of the EP’s standout tracks, “PLASTIK LOVE,” takes a closer look at what happens when the language of consumerism finds its way into romance.
Built around acrylic synth tones and emotionally revealing lyrics, the song explores the financial realities of modern relationships and the pressure to constantly search for something better.
With lyrics such as “Let’s just bundle and save, ourselves today,” MISSING PET captures the strange intersection of love, economics, and emotional uncertainty.
The track reflects the struggle between wanting genuine connection and living in a culture that encourages people to keep their options open.
What’s Next for MISSING PET?
With PITCH DARKNESS, MISSING PET offers a thought-provoking exploration of modern connection without pretending to have all the answers.
Heavily digital yet deeply intimate, the five-song project doesn’t necessarily romanticize staying in one place or holding onto something that no longer works.
Instead, it asks a deceptively simple question: What might happen if we stopped searching for something better and started appreciating what we already have?
In a world obsessed with moving on, choosing to stay might just be the most radical act of all.
