Maya Killtron Rekindles the Spark of Long-Term Love on Sultry New Single “Touch This Body”
Toronto singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Maya Killtron returns with “Touch This Body,” a playful, groove-soaked new single that explores one of pop music’s most overlooked subjects: keeping romance alive after the honeymoon phase. Blending post-disco, funk, soul, contemporary R&B, neo-soul, and quiet storm influences, the track captures the confidence, chemistry, and intentional effort required to keep long-term love feeling exciting years after the first spark.
While countless love songs celebrate new attraction or heartbreak, “Touch This Body” turns its attention to what happens after the butterflies settle. Inspired by Maya’s own reflections on lasting relationships, the song embraces the reality that intimacy doesn’t simply sustain itself. It evolves, requiring playfulness, vulnerability, and the willingness to rediscover one another.
“It’s about what you have to do to keep things exciting and sexy, even when all you wanna do is sit in your cozies all day and watch Game of Thrones,” Maya explains. “Long-term love succeeds when you feel safe and secure, but there’s still excitement that comes from unpredictability and the danger of making fun, bad decisions.”
The song’s title arrives with equal parts confidence and humour. Less a literal invitation than a playful provocation, “Touch This Body” recalls the swagger of new romance while acknowledging the comfort that only years together can create. Rather than longing for the past, Maya asks whether it’s possible to reclaim that early electricity without sacrificing the security that time has built.
“It’s about bringing back the confidence and sexual energy of when you first started dating with the comfort of years of inside jokes together,” Maya says.
That perspective makes “Touch This Body” a refreshing departure from the familiar narratives that dominate contemporary pop and R&B. Instead of idealizing beginnings or endings, Maya celebrates the complicated middle: the Costco trips, the grey sweatpants, and the everyday work of choosing one another again and again. The result is a song that acknowledges the challenges of commitment without ever losing its sense of joy.
Musically, “Touch This Body” channels the infectious spirit of post-disco icons while embracing modern production. Co-written alongside newly Grammy-winning producer HiFiLo, the track draws inspiration from Sheila E., balancing sophisticated musicianship with irresistible dancefloor energy. HiFiLo’s expansive synth arrangements and rhythmic instincts provided the perfect counterpart to Maya’s playful songwriting, creating a sound that feels both timeless and unmistakably current.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Helloooo! I am Maya Killtron – singer, violinist, producer, writer, purveyor of Funk, Yacht Rock and RnB and lover of Hot Dogs and Star Trek.
“Touch This Body” explores a side of romance that doesn’t get nearly as much attention in pop music — keeping the spark alive in a long-term relationship. What made you want to write about that stage of love?
I am lucky enough to be in that stage of love and so are many of my closest friends. The song is an amalgam of all of our stories and romantic hardships. Long love is work. The work may look slightly different from couple to couple but the bottom line is that we all have to work for long term love.
There’s a lot of humour and personality woven into the song’s concept, from grey sweatpants and Costco trips to staying home watching Game of Thrones. How important was it for you to keep the song playful rather than overly serious?
Very important! It’s easy to get dragged down by how hard these elements of life can be. If you make the music funny and sexy, the work can feel just a little more fun. Or at least I hope so!
You co-wrote “Touch This Body” with Grammy-winning producer HiFiLo. What did they bring to the song that surprised you or pushed it somewhere you might not have taken it on your own?
Todd Pentney aka HiFilo brings an unparalleled depth of musicianship to every collaboration. He’s a mind blowing musician but what makes him so special is that he can find the jokes in over the top music nerdery without making the music a joke. He effortlessly can ride the line of complexity and humour.
The official video adds another layer to the playful, confident energy of “Touch This Body.” How did you approach translating the song’s message and personality into the visuals, and what did you want viewers to take away from it?
The video is fun and features the best of South Etobicoke – all locations were scouted and chosen by Director Rob Dunn. He instantly got the song concept and translated my confusing list of ideas into a visually bold, colourful and fun video. I want viewers to see the video as the visual entrance to my world and where the record is going. Can’t wait to show you where we go next.
With “Touch This Body” introducing this latest chapter of your music, what does the song tell listeners about where Maya Killtron is creatively right now, and what are you excited to explore next?
I have been sitting on this music for a while so getting it out into the world is beyond exciting. I can’t wait to share the world I created with this upcoming album Toronja. I explore more genre bending and blending and get to feature the talents of musicians I’ve worked with for years. Its the whole concept of both new and old, familiar and risk all together.
