Montréal Singer-Songwriter Silka Weil Releases “Forever,” a Warm and Tender New Single From Her Forthcoming EP, Midnight Blue

Montréal singer-songwriter Silka Weil has released “Forever,” a relaxed, feel-good new single that reveals a softer, sun-warmed side of the emerging artist as she continues the rollout toward her second EP, Midnight Blue, due July 3, 2026. Where her recent work has leaned into tension and desire, “Forever” settles into something gentle and secure, an easy-listening ode to the kind of love that makes you feel completely safe.

The song carries a quiet depth beneath its breezy surface, and that contrast gives journalists a rich story to tell. Weil wrote “Forever” in the lead-up to her 2023 wedding, drawing on imagery from the honeymoon she and her partner were planning at the time. “Come with me aboard the plane, time for our sweet escape,” she sings, “through the window scenes will change, you and I remain.” The track sets the fleeting highs of vacations and milestones against the lasting security of true partnership, landing on the realization that the real reward is not the trip or the event, but the everyday commitment to a caring partner.

That theme grew from something personal for Weil. She has spoken about how, in her younger years, she would feel a sinking sadness whenever a trip or a vacation came to an end, and how the planning of her wedding and honeymoon never once carried that feeling. The difference, she realized, was that she was celebrating a lifelong commitment rather than a single fleeting moment, a partner so caring and wonderful she could not help but use him as a muse.

Even in its lightest moments, the song nods to having come through hard times. The bridge offers a quiet kind of grace, with Weil singing, “So let the water wash away your regrets and anything that’s ever dragged you down.” It is a line that reframes the whole song, turning what might first sound like an escape into something steadier: an ode to the backbone of love that leaves you feeling anchored and secure, and to the simple comfort of knowing you get to go home with someone.

“Forever” was produced, mixed, mastered, and engineered by Jean-Sébastien Brault-Labbé at Studio de la Ruelle, with Brault-Labbé also handling arrangements and all instrumentation around Weil’s lead vocal and melody. A frequent collaborator whose production credits include Gabrielle Papillon, Samuele, and Le Husky, Brault-Labbé gives the track its warm, welcoming feel. True to her hands-on approach to her own visual identity, Weil designed the single’s graphic artwork and lyric video herself, with cover photography by Erika Lamon.

Weil has built steady recognition since her celebrated 2023 debut EP, earning Musi-Flo’s Artist of the Year for 2023 and appearing on the July 2025 cover of radiodowntown.ca, with radio play and interviews across Canada and internationally, including a live interview with Mexico-based media organization Ella Suena. Her music has drawn comparisons to artists as varied as PJ Harvey and Lana Del Rey for its ability to hold boldness and intimacy in the same breath, and she has performed across Canada in Banff, Kingston, and Montréal, as well as in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

With “Forever,” Silka Weil offers a glimpse of the range that ‘Midnight Blue’ promises, a songwriter equally at home in fierce desire and tender devotion. The single is available now on all major streaming platforms ahead of the EP’s release on July 3, 2026.

Hi, Silka! Good to see you again! Care to introduce yourself to the readers for those not familiar with your music?

Of course, thanks so much for having me!

I am an independent singer-songwriter from Montreal, Quebec. I love to blend genres and write in a variety of styles. My music has been described as folk-pop and post-grunge.  I love PJ Harvey, Joni Mitchel, and Lana Del Rey. You may pick up on their influence in my songs. I have a new EP coming out July 3rd: Midnight Blue.

You wrote “Forever” while planning your wedding. Every couple has an argument they revisit forever. What’s yours? Pineapple on pizza? Thermostat wars? Dishwasher-loading technique?

Well we’re pretty complimentary and agreeable. The only time I get any flack from my husband is when we are driving and he has to remind me that the roadsigns aren’t just suggestions.

If your husband got to write a response song to “Forever,” what’s the one thing he’d gently roast you about?

I’m quite affectionate, and he’s pretty introverted. So his response song would probably be called “Some of the time” and be about how he would sometimes like just a little bit of space. 😛

Was there ever a moment during wedding planning where you thought, “This is beautiful,” and another where you thought, “Let’s elope immediately”?

My husband’s motto is “everything sucks until you do it” and I agree with him for so many things. Anytime you do anything exciting or worthwhile there’s definitely moments where you’re pulling out your hair and asking why you ever decided to do the thing. But that’s the whole point of leaving your comfort zone, it’s going to be (at least somewhat) uncomfortable! Having our loved ones close by and involved to celebrate with us was so meaningful and very worth it.

The song is about lasting love, but let’s talk gossip: what’s the most romantic thing your partner has ever done that would make everyone else jealous?

We practiced our wedding vows together, so I thought I knew everything he would say. But he ended up surprising me by changing them slightly the day of. After vowing to support me, saying “your dreams are my dreams”, he incorporated some lyrics from my song Time into his vows (swoon).
