Breaking ceilings, crossing borders, and redefining what Canadian independent success looks like.

Adam Rodway is operating with a level of ambition that pushes far beyond the traditional expectations placed on independent artists in Canada. Recently named an iHeartRadio Future Star, Rodway has translated that momentum into real chart impact, breaking into the Top 10 on the Canadian CHR/Top 40 chart and becoming the highest-charting independent artist in the country.

His latest single, “Matter of Fact,” builds on early comparisons to the raw, high-energy fusion of mgk and Travis Barker during the Tickets To My Downfall era, but ultimately carves out its own identity. The track takes a bold step forward with the addition of powerhouse drummer London Hudson of Return To Dust—son of Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash—whose band previously held the #1 Active Rock song in the U.S. with “Bored” in February 2026.

For a rising Canadian artist to collaborate with a U.S.-breaking rock drummer at this level is a statement move that signals Rodway’s growing international reach. Rather than remaining confined to a Canada-centric trajectory, he is actively bridging the Toronto–Los Angeles pipeline through strategic collaboration and undeniable momentum.

“Matter of Fact” also stands as a blueprint for modern independent success, showcasing how self-belief, timing, and cross-border creative networking can dismantle long-standing industry barriers. With a headlining appearance at the Billboard Presents showcase during NXNE 2026, Rodway’s trajectory continues to accelerate.

As his profile expands, “Matter of Fact” reinforces a clear message: independent artists in 2026 are no longer limited by geography—they are limited only by ambition.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi I’m Adam Rodway and im a songwriter & performing artist from Markham, ON but now working out of Toronto. My favourite thing to do is write songs with my friends and play them live in front of live audiences.

Congratulations on the release of “Matter of Fact.” What was the original inspiration behind the song?

Thank you! This song started out with me and my producer Danny Lopez sitting down and chatting about what we wanted to make. I mentioned I really liked the Pop punk/rock stuff that MGK and Travis Barker were doing and so we came up with a guitar part and started writing about something that felt like it belonged in that realm of music. I think Matter of fact stems from that feeling of being at the end of a relationship where you both just don’t feel happy anymore and having to be the one that pulls the trigger.

You’ve mentioned that the track carried hints of the energy found in the pop-punk revival led by MGK and Travis Barker. What drew you to that sound?

I think it just had a bit of nostalgia mixed in with something that felt really cool and new. I liked the angstiness in the sounds and it was exciting. I think that sound really lends itself well to the topics I tend to write about and allows me to explore my vocal range and delivery.

How did the collaboration with London Hudson come together?

The London collab came from a conversation that my manager Jamie Baldini had with London about some songs I was working on. He mentioned he really liked Matter Of Fact and would be down to hop on it. Jamie mentioned it to me and I was super stoked he was down for it. London is a crazy talented drummer and it’s super cool and inspiring to see what he and his band Return To Dust are doing in the rock space.

You’ve become one of the highest-charting independent artists in Canada. What does that accomplishment mean to you personally?

When I heard that was the case I was pretty shocked. I think it’s amazing that Jamie and I were able to get here without any label help or booking agents or anything. It really just goes to show what you can accomplish independently and it makes me excited for what’s next and to see how far we can take this!

Your single, “Runaround” recently cracked the Top 10 on Canada’s Top 40 radio chart. When did it first hit you that the song was connecting on such a massive scale?

I think when my mom called me and told me she heard me on the radio was a moment where it kinda hit different. Since then I’ve had so many people I’ve met along the way reach out with pictures and videos of them hearing it on the radio, some even in different provinces all around the country. It still doesn’t really feel real that it’s become so popular on the radio, truly a dream come true.

Are there any dream collaborations you’d like to make happen next?

There are a lot of artists that really inspire me and the music I make but if I had to choose, I think it would have to be either Dominic Fike or MGK for sure. I feel like they are both such versatile artists and I really like how they can kinda do any genre. They both really inspire me to keep exploring my songwriting and vocal delivery.
