Born in a Moroccan orphanage and raised in Quebec, Satya’s path hasn’t been easy — navigating identity, addiction, motherhood, and the relentless pressures of public life. From surviving a suicide attempt to achieving sobriety and finding her voice through music, her story is one of resilience, reclamation, and rising above.
First, could you introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is SATYA, and I am a Pop and R&B singer in Québec. Music has been a part of my life since I was a young girl; it was my way of processing the harsh struggles that life has thrown my way — from being abandoned at birth in Morocco to my battles with addiction and mental health, which began in my early teenage years.
When I started sharing my music, I finally felt less alone, realizing the power it can hold and the community we can build through song. Through this light, I was able to take control over my life — a blessing that has allowed me, as a new mom, to be the best version of myself for her. Since becoming a mom, my sound has evolved even more. I have a deep desire to write songs that empower young girls to be confident and carry that strength with them for life.
Could you tell us a bit about your recent release?
My new release, Flip My Hair, is an anthem of self-love and empowerment. It’s the song you play when you need a little reminder of who you are — just as much as it’s the one you put on when you’re feeling yourself and want to live fully in that moment. It’s important to celebrate ourselves, not just after overcoming obstacles, but also when we’re simply doing well.
Flip My Hair came to life after I came out of a dark period a few years ago. I had experienced immense loss — one of the hardest being the fierce woman I had worked so hard to become. At the same time, I was navigating my new role as a mother. Seeing my daughter — my little twin — dancing and trying to sing along to some of my favorite songs, it sparked something in me. And just like that, Flip My Hair was born. It’s an ode to her and to the battles I’ve overcome.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
Writing music for me always starts with a sound. I love finding a beat that resonates with what I’m feeling inside — it’s less of a formula and more of an instinct. Once I find that spark, I grab my little writing kit and dive in.
My songwriting feels like journaling when I was younger — except now I don’t lock it away with a mini padlock! Once I’ve poured out everything I need to say, I bring it to my creative team. They help shape it into something powerful. I’m so grateful for their input — their notes make me a stronger artist, and Flip My Hair is a great example of that process at work.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
We’re in the studio every week, working on some very exciting projects that I can’t speak about just yet — but trust me, there’s more music on the way! We’re also hoping to plan a local tour for next year.
Right now, the focus is on celebrating Flip My Hair and sharing it with as many people as possible. I really hope the public connects with it because my mission is to create music that heals, just as it has healed me.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
There have been many turning points in my life and career, but the biggest one was realizing how healing music truly is. Artists like Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, 2Pac, and Mary J. Blige saved me during some of my darkest times — through heartbreak, depression, and even celebrations.
There’s something incredibly powerful about music, and knowing that I now get to share that same power with others is the greatest blessing of all. My hope is that my music helps others feel less alone and inspires them to share their own light.

Oh, there are so many! I’m a huge fan of R&B singers BAYLA, ZEINA, SHAY LIA, and MINOE. These women are not only insanely talented, but they’re also brave enough to open their souls to the world — and that’s something rare and powerful.
